This book was really good. I found myself crying throughout the whole ending. I 100% recommend this book because it is written very well and it is easy to connect with the characters. This book has a beautiful romance and a bittersweet ending and storyline. This book is much better than the movie, but the movie is also good. Quick read, and totally worth the time.

i think my favourite book trope is sad romance books. you know, when one person dies, but RIGHT BEFORE THEY DO, they meet the love of their life.
and katie's letter to charlie at the very end made me bawl my eyes out like a baby.

Read in a day because I couldn’t put it down. It is very cringe worthy but the teenage girl in me loved every moment of it and bought back nostalgic memories of when I read many of these types of books in school. The ending was emotionally challenge and I couldn’t stop crying - tear stains on the pages!

Okay so I want to start off my saying I read this book fully knowing I was going to hate parts of it. I knew the medical condition aspect was going to upset me but I wanted to see if maybe I was wrong. I was not.
Let start with the most glaring problem the depiction of XP. The whole point of this book is the girl has XP (for those of you who don't know thats a mutation in your genes that makes you extremely sensitive to the sun and predisposed to skin cancer cause your body can't heal the damage caused by the sun) This condition is very rare only one in every million people in the US has it. (I am one of them) When it comes to the description of the condition the author was correct but she was completely wrong about what it is like living with this condition. The things she makes this girl go through are so extreme. People with XP can live a pretty normal life just with a few extra precautions and doctors visits. The author took this to such an extreme it was beyond the realm of what just about anyone would do. This whole aspect felt like the author picked a rare condition read the basic description and then just guessed and hoped no one would call her out on it. She so obviously did zero research on people who have actually had this condition which is so upsetting and frankly lazy.
My other issue with this book was it was all so juvenile and flat. The main character thinks like a thirteen year old not an eighteen year old (all of them do to be honest) and don't give me that whole she grew up in a bubble thing either. She went out at night, people come to her, she has tv it was just lazy writing again. There is also the issue no one had a personality, sick and plays a guitar are not personality traits but you sure would think that since that is all these characters ever talk about which again is just lazy writing.
My overall opinion of this book was that the author relayed way to much on a condition she didn't even properly research to hold up a flat book that honestly should have been writen for middle grade. She hoped the condition could distract from the weak plot and characters. She based a whole book on a condition she obviously knew very little about and just hoped it would do well because the sick kid narrative was so popular....like I said overall it was just lazy

I can't believe I'm saying this but: the movie was better than the book. I picked up the book because the movie was moving, and left my heart aching, so, of course, I wanted to put myself through more pain and actually read it. I did not enjoy it at all. The movie did follow the book pretty well, but the book made the characters lose their luster. I couldn't imagine the scenes or characters or ANYTHING from that book. It was a quick read; but it definitely wasn't the best.

This book is a nice teenager romance. It's an easy and lovely read about first love and death mixed together.
I enjoyed this book even though it was a little immature for my adult self, but it was an easy bedtime read.
I would definitely recommend this book to 13 year old me and any other teens out there who love a good romance!
