Possibly 4.5 stars, though the author gets a bit carried away with his side bars of things philosophical. He does keep things interesting.
My first thought starting the second two books of this series was that each two books of the four were pretty much stand alone. Having finished the final book four, I would recommend the reading of the first two books. Splitting hairs, though, one could read each two books as one series each. Okay, so i waffle on this.
Simmons toys with time and space a lot in this saga. I liken his "far-casting" and events that happen after the before (exactly: you will read what happened after before you read the before in some cases) to a tale set on a Möbius strip. A one sided, two dimensional phenomenon. What goes around comes around.
Excellent craftsmanship in the writing. Keep a dictionary handy to stay up with the vocabulary. Oh, and allot some time to muse after reading and rereading more than one passage.

Answers a lot of questions I didn't know I had from Hyperion and the others in the Cantos. Satisfying in that way. Pacing of this and Endymion were a little slower than the first two.

The Rise of Endymion concludes the series that started with Hyperion in fine form. This is classic space-opera with a seriously brainy twist. Beautifully written and fabulously plotted, this book really ties up all and any loose ends in the series without ever seeming contrived. The ending is as uplifting as it is sad. This is a serious master-work of sci-fi and deserves a place on any serious sci-fi lover's bookshelf.

Solid book. First and last of this series are definitely the best. The focus on smaller scale architecture is very interesting — also tree worlds, yay!
