[AUDIO BOOK] Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins is a glimpse into the mind of a man that pushes his body beyond the breaking point. After giving you a first hand account of his childhood, Goggins runs you through his experiences of being beaten down by military training, running ultra marathons, and breaking a pull-up record. (I say run instead of walk because this man does not walk anywhere.) Goggins by no means started out as the endurance beast that he is today. He gives a great recounting of his journey to losing weight and bouncing back from terrible injuries most people would lay down after. Goggins gives some techniques he used durning the many challenges he took on which are good. They involve leveling with yourself plainly. Goggins gives no room for fluff. He asks the readers to be brutally honest with themselves, and that is a policy that I appreciate. Overall the audiobook was great. In between chapters Goggins talks with Adam Skolnick and gives additional commentary. I would recommend picking this book up in audio format for this reason. If you need to get hyped about physically and mentally pushing yourself, this is the book for you.

"I sounded like a whiny bitch, but I knew finding some comfort would help me hem my vagina"

Got to around 60% when he begins participating in triathlons.

First part of the book was interesting with regards to his family background and training attempts.

Beyond this, I got fed up of his demeaning writing (quoted above) and he's really rather irritating, so I gave up reading the rest!

The real way that you can help yourself, is by saving time reading this puerile drivel.

This man is amazing. He has shown that the mind is stronger than the body by withstanding a rough childhood and unimaginable challenges. If you need some motivation, this book is for you. Very entertaining but some strong language if your not into that.

One of the books that honestly transformed me. And it's not always that a book could do that.

My main takeaway from this book is that taking care of yourself means staying disciplined.

To wake up early when you don't feel like it. To still do a workout when you're feeling tired. To work hard on your side project on top of your day job. To do hard things today, so that tomorrow becomes easier.

I pushed myself harder after taking inspiration from David's story, and saw myself doing things I never thought I could do. It brought a sense of pride and self-respect I never knew I had in me.

But I agree with another review that this isn't a life manual. If anything, David showed me exactly what I shouldn't do. I never felt comfortable about him running on a broken knee or practically anything where he pushed his body in unhealthy ways. While pain and suffering can promote growth, it's meaningless without purpose.

A reminder for myself: callous your mind, but always check in with yourself and know when to rest.

I saved this book for a moment when I needed a lift. After spending five months preparing for this year's triathlon, I fell ill the day before the competition, which was a huge blow to my motivation. This book by David Goggins is exactly what I need right now. Goggins exemplifies how practice and dedication can help you achieve anything.
