As a retired Navy SEAL who came from a rough past, David Goggins has been able to change his entire perspective and mindset from childhood to persevere and achieve his goals. From applying to different military units to participating in ultra marathons, he details what has and hasn’t worked for him. Solid read on how far dedication and hard work can take you. Recommend!

Very inspirational. My only cautions are that you can't think yourself out of poor mental health, and that it's ok to change your goals before you achieve them. Otherwise, this book is a good roadmap for life.

The book achieves its purpose: to highly motivate. Goggins is an exceptional character with ridiculous levels of mental fortitude. The book is a story of his life and the many rises and falls that come with pushing yourself to the brink. Techniques are provided to pass through insurmountable mental barriers you may be placing on yourself in various aspects of your life. This book is like a blunt force instrument that drives home the same point over and over via various different stories, which I liked. His story appears legit which makes the book more interesting.

This was a very powerful read, especially for someone currently doing the 75 Hard program. Goggins story starts off with his traumatic, heart-breaking childhood and eventually led us to where he is today. My favorite part about his story is that he's not using his experiences to play victim or to make you have pity on him for being the way he is. It's rather admirable how he refused to let his past make him a scapegoat of every wrongdoing and unfortunate circumstance he was faced with. Instead, he put himself through hell deliberately to "callus his mind" - a phrase he uses often throughout the book - because when you train hard for something, you build this thick layer to you that nothing can break you. It doesn't allow you to fall apart and send you down a spiral path of darkness. You gain the mental strength to get through whatever life throws at you. While I don't think his message is to be taken literally and give people the impression they need to break themselves over and over to be unbreakable, his method and ideology of focusing your attention on the solution instead of the problem is a great way to mastering discipline. That is the real lesson that we can all use and learn from Goggins.
