To me this is better read as a memoir than a "self help" book. In some cases, there seems to be a thin line between mental toughness and stubbornness. Some of his advice is good, others didn't sit as well with me like skimping on sleep or pushing your body so hard you actually injure yourself.

There are better and more hinged military self-help books

Training for my first marathon. This book got me through the first 3 weeks of long runs. Listening to the back stories and extra bonuses dug into my psyche even more. So grateful to Goggins for sharing this story and helping me want to be the person within myself that even blows God away.

There is some hard living, near impossible circumstances, and good lessons within. Goggins definitely does it his way. I respect what he accomplished and learned through his lens on overcoming obstacles even if I don’t subscribe to his philosophy. There’s wisdom within and I don’t have to agree with every thing to take some things away. I recommend to anyone wanting to push past perceived limits but perhaps it’s not the best manual on personal relationships or deeper significance.

Great book. I highly recommend the audio version, it has a bunch of extra stuff between each chapter - dialogue between Goggins and the narrator (Adam Skolnick, the ghost writer).

Extremely motivational book! This changed my entire perspective on how i live my life. I ran a marathon without training after reading this book, against the authors own advice hahaha. A truly inspirational man with quite the story to tell! Would recommend 10/10

One of my favorite books to revisit year to year and remind myself what we're capable of (even if I personally won't be completing 4,000+ pullups or run 130+ miles at a time)

While I sincerely appreciate the author's incredibly painful childhood, I found his relentless self-punishing behavior to be disgusting. He chose a testosterone-driven path that I found difficult to relate to.
