This is my first book by this author and for the most part, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thea got on my nerves a bit near the end, but she redeemed herself. Lots of humor and emotion. 5 stars!

Next I’m planning to read “A Wicked Kind of Husband,” which to my understanding, is actually the real first book of the series.

An entirely passable book. I only picked it up because I kinda liked the other book by this author.
Though I like reading love stories, this book is more like a fancy-well-written-Mills-n-Boon-romance book.

This is my first Mia Vincy book which I read to get to the RITA award winning 3rd book in the series. I felt the book started out very well with grumpy/sunshine trope but the last 1/3 of the book I felt was dragging. I am hoping the next books in the series live up to the reviews.

Really really enjoyed this. Thea was such a charming ball of delightful energy and I really warmed up to Rafe once he saw Thea for exactly how she was and loved her for all of her quirks. Plus he immediately believed the truth to her story the minute he heard it and never questioned her sincerity, so he really won me over after his initial horrible set up and poor impression of her. The layers of deception by both of them made this a really compelling plot, even if the logistics and Thea's exit strategy for the fake marriage plan don't exactly all come together for me.

SpoilerI really love the way that they both start off as victims of terrible rumors and turn it around on the baddies by the end, even if it was a little corny how well it worked to ruin the main villain forever. I am also super glad that Thea realized her parents didn't deserve forgiveness right away after how terribly they treated her. It was really refreshing to realize how much she still loved her parents and her childhood memories of them, and while she doesn't believe that they were evil people, but that she doesn't fit with their values anymore and can't have them in her life in a present way after they cast her out multiple times over a bad false rumor. Thea could walk away in a healthy place, and I'm so happy she was able to set that boundary.

A quick and entertaining read. Reasonably well written with some clever banter and nuanced prose.

However, the plot was slow at times and characters lacked depth. Also, not a slow enough burn for me!

Overall, the author seems to have much to offer and I am tempted to try another in the series for funsies!

Mia Vincy is a new to me author and I’ll be reading more of her historical romance. Good writing and a fast paced story.
