I am in the minority on this one so definitely check out some of the other reviews if you are thinking of picking this one up. The thing that bothered me most about this one is that Rosie felt more like a 12 year old throughout the book in terms of how she approached romantic relationships as well as friendships, and the communication style she used with others. I did not feel any romantic tension or build up, and the ending was a let down for me on so many levels. In some ways Rosie showed some growth as a character, but for the most part it felt very contrived. The messages that Walsh was making were heavy handed, and she used a lot of telling instead of showing to convey her messages. I did enjoy the theater setting in a senior residential area, and I wish the uniqueness of the setting could have been used to carry the story in a more effective way.

Everything’s Coming up Rosie
By Courtney Walsh
Narrated by Jorjeana Marie

Publishes June 10,2025

This was such a heartwarming story. Rosie went to NYC to pursue her dreams to become a broadway actor. But despite her dreams the best she was able to do was play a corpse on Law and Order. At the edge of almost loosing everything she takes a job in Wisconsin but didn’t read all the details and comes to find out its a assisted living facility and she was going to need to cast and direct a production of Cinderella using only seniors. It was such a feel good book and I just loved it so much.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for the ALC audiobook. All opinions are my own.

🤍 Thank you so much @courtneywalsh for the copy of this gem of a story!

Courtney is one of my favorite people and authors! Her books are always a highlight for me and this one was no exception.

It was a love letter to the theatre and to chasing your dreams. It was a gentle and loving reminder that it’s okay for dreams to shift, evolve, or change as life goes on.

This was a book about friendship in unexpected places (a retirement home 👀) and of course, a swoony romance that melted my heart.

This book releases tomorrow and I hope you’ll check it out.

I didn’t realize I’d already read a few books by Courtney Walsh until I picked this one up—and I’m so glad I did, because I really enjoyed it! Rosie is an actor living in New York, struggling to make it while pretending to everyone back home that she’s thriving. When things fall apart, she returns home and accepts a theater job that includes room and board—only to find out it’s at a retirement community.

It reminded me of visiting a fancy one in Arizona where an aunt and uncle lived—so I could totally picture the setting. There, Rosie meets Booker, who also lives and works in the community. What starts out as a setback turns into something unexpectedly beautiful. She grows through the wisdom of the residents, finds a mentor, makes new friends (and a few frenemies), and maybe even finds love. Watching her journey from pretending to be okay to truly stepping into her purpose was so satisfying.

There were some deeper themes, but it didn’t get too heavy—I never cried, but I was definitely invested. I found myself cheering Rosie on at times, and other times thinking, “Come on, Rosie!” The romance had some push and pull, but we get our HEA in the end. And as a musical lover, I absolutely sang out loud with all the theater references—so fun!

I didn’t grow up in community theater, but I know I would’ve been all in if I had the chance. I wasn’t a theater geek like Rosie, but I definitely think I might’ve been a theater nerd—I’ve got the catalog of show tunes and favorite actors to prove it!

If you’re into show tunes, heartfelt journeys, and closed-door romance, Everything’s Coming Up Rosie will hit all the right notes. And let’s just say… the ending gave me Tangled vibes in the best way.

“Sometimes what you think you want and what you actually want turn out to be different things” Rosie Waterman’s big dream is to be a be a working actor. But when that does not seem to be working, she takes a summer job at a regional theater.

Courtney Walsh is back with wholesome late coming of age story. I loved the cast of characters, especially the physical therapist representation. I also appreciated and connected with the theme that it is not too late to redefine what you really want in life or maybe rethinking how to achieve your goals. I made a pretty significant career change at 42, moving from a physical therapist to healthcare IT. I think this book highlights the struggle that it takes to reframe your goals and make a change. This is a fun impactful read.

Such a sweet and charming book! I really enjoyed Rosie’s coming-of-age journey, her story was heartfelt and relatable. I loved the friendships she formed along the way. A truly enjoyable read!

As my first foray into Courtney Walsh's writing, I was thoroughly charmed. Her ability to weave together humor, genuine emotion, and relatable characters made for an utterly delightful reading experience. Jorjeana Marie's narration for the audiobook was a standout. Her expressive voice work brought each quirky character to life, perfectly capturing the story's heart and humor, making it an absolute joy to listen to.

If you're looking for a heartwarming story of self-discovery, unexpected friendships, and a touch of sweet romance, Everything's Coming Up Rosie is an absolute must-read.
