3 stars. But like a higher end of a three star, just not quite a four because I’m annoying. I really, really liked Wharton’s writing style and I have to say that this was a fairly enjoyable read. Though a bit dry in places, the characters and the writing really are what held this together for me seeing as the plot was just okay. I loved the descriptions and the how the characters interacted with one another and I thought the ending was really well done. I plan on continuing on with Edith Wharton’s work and get more of her wonderful writing style.

I'm counting this as read because I did read that terribly long and annoying information at the beginning of the book - basically a short-cut to the book and the author's life. I have tried for over two months to read this terrible thing where people are criticized for being themselves. I know she was going for satire, but it came across as droll. I also understand it was written round about 100 years ago, but so was My Antonia, and that was enjoyable.
