I may come back to this book, but it just isn't doing it for me right now.

This book didn't work for me. I found it to repetitive. The drama felt forced and at the end the conflict was ended very quickly.

Quick and easy read. Not very spicy. Characters were well developed.

After food critic Rashida and architect Elliott hook up, they don't expect to see each other again. Then, Rashida learns Elliott's father's company is planning to build a high-end shopping center in her grandmother's neighborhood. Worried that gentrification will raise property taxes and drive out the elderly residents, Rashida leads a protest to prevent rezoning.

Elliott is sympathetic, but his father's company is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. His father, recovering from a heart attack, could be ruined if the rezoning doesn't go through. Together, can he and Rashida work out a compromise? Or are their hormones blinding them to reality?

I loved the characters and the strong family elements in this book. It's primarily plot-driven, with the conflict over the rezoning driving the action. Rashida and Elliot both want to explore a deeper relationship, but the need to protect their families keeps getting in the way. It's not a deeply emotional book, but love sneaks up on them, bringing with it some steamy scenes.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

A cute and steamy story, with a healthy (and very interesting) dose of local politics. I enjoyed the connection between Rashida and Elliot (and their steamy scenes were fantastic), but I was left a little wanting for more of their emotional bond. The family dynamics were great, and there were some really fun side characters. The most engrossing part of the book, and what detracted from the MC's relationship, was the issues of gentrification and the history and importance of the area to the local residents. I loved that side, but it did leave the book unbalanced in my opinion.

Thank you to Entangled and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is a cute, IR "romance" I guess? Read.
Or possibly "chick lit"? I don't read these as much. But am trying to get into them.
Set in ATL, Rashida (a BW and food critic) is from a close knit family from Tobago. Family including her mom, granny and sister. Elliott (a WM and architect) is her opposite. He grew up wealthy with a loving mom and distant father. They are interesting characters. They were at odds over a very real life issue (gentrification). But aligned on their feelings for each other. It gets steamy, which is fine. It has a few funny moments... Anything you could want in a book. Of course there were obstacles in their way. I liked the beautiful descriptions. I could envision everything they ate and drank, what they wore, where they went. It's very descriptive. I would definitely read another from this author
Strong 3.5 stars.
