If there was ever a moment for me to stumble upon a book I knew nothing about...this was it.
It was unexpected and unique, and I completed got lost in it.
The way that Ashley Poston handled grief was so comforting, and it brought a bit of peace to my heart in the wake of a recent loss.
Florence and Ben are such a delight-their corny jokes, their heartfelt chats...I just couldn't put this book down.
I am sure there are people who won't connect this way. People who find the plot too out there, but I think if it is the right fit for you, you will feel like this book sought you out and gave you something you didn't know you needed.

It follows ghost writer, Florence (who can see ghosts) and her new editor Benji (who has suddenly become a ghost less 24hrs since Florence last saw him) as she tries to process her grief surrounding the unexpected death of her father and the year long writer’s block which threatens to tank her career all while returning to the hometown which drove her away ten years prior.
I genuinely loved Florence who was such an endearing protagonist (trust me it’s virtually impossible not to love her in all her kooky glory.) And I enjoyed getting to see the fascinating and unconventional childhood she got to experience, growing up in a funeral home with such a close knit family (and being able to communicate with the dead.)
I picked this up hoping for something fairly light and fluffy and though there’s is quite a bit of that, especially when it came to Florence and Ben’s relationship—which is genuinely swoon-worthy—there’s also some gorgeously written scenes that were pretty emotionally intense and may just make you tear up.
The book does deal a lot with grief in all it’s various forms (from losing a loved one to dealing with the proverbial death of a relationship) which could be a trigger for some. But, I do have to admit I really enjoyed all of the deeply emotional moments we got to explore and I absolutely loved how satisfying the ending was.
This definitely felt like the love child of Book Lovers and The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy so if you enjoy either (or both) of those then I thoroughly recommend checking this out!

Already late on her deadline and was rejected for an extension by her new editor, Florence expects to lose her ghostwriting job. However, she does not expect to see this new editor, Benji, in her hometown. And nobody else but Florence can see him because she can see ghosts.
There’s cute irony, because Florence can’t write the ending to the book because she’s convinced love is dead. However, she has feelings for Benji.. who is a ghost..
There is a happily ever after. It’s probably fairly predictable how it happens (I know I guess it ahead of time), but I’m not looking for a twist when I read romance. I want a cute story that will make me feel things.
This book definitely made me feel things. The writing about the loss of her father was heartbreaking and her relationship with Benji was so cute. Would highly recommend.
