I’m not at all a car person so I feel like this wasn’t really for me. Lots of characters right off the bat, but all vaguely familiar from the previous Langston Brothers series. Plot moved along nicely and the spice was nice!
- Enemies to lovers
- Street racing
- Single mother
- Brother's best friend
- He falls first
I have been looking forward to this book for so long and it did not disappoint. Based in the same world as the Batter Up and Langston Brothers series, I knew this was going to be a wild ride.
Mina doesn't want to be part of the life her brother, Leon, lives. but when trouble arises, Leon brings Mina and her daughter Cleo to St Louis so he can protect them. Leon is a street racer and has ties to the mafia. A rival bratva is trying to encroach into the St Louis area.
Leon's best friend Dontell has been interested in Mina for years, but she is off limits. Even though Mina can't stand Dontell, she is very attracted to him. Dontell is a complex character, a peacekeeper. I could relate to that trait and found myself drawn to him. He also has a very dirty mouth....
I absolutely squealed with glee that so many characters from other books I've loved made appearances.
Overall, I loved this story and am looking forward to seeing what Brittany has in store for the other characters in this world.

Brittany has done it again....
Hold on to your chair because this story takes you on a bumpy emotional ride. I love how she interconnects her series so you hear of the same characters.
Mina is a single mom who has been through a lot. Cleo is Mina's daughter, Mina has had to make some tough choices in life. She had to leave her family for the better of her daughter.
Dontelle is the main male character who sees Mina from afar and knows that he has to keep his feelings to himself. Dontelle finally gives into his feelings for Mina even though she is his best friends little sister.
I cant wait to see where this series goes next.
I received this book as an ARC and am willingly leaving this review.

After events transpired Leon left Mina, his sister, and her daughter behind and moved. He made his own family with fellow racers, including Dontell, his best friend. Dontell and Mina have feelings for each other; the book starts with Leon entering Mina’s life again and making her move to be with his new family. Mina struggles with welcoming Leon back into her life while interacting with his family, and Dontell does not want to act on his feelings for Mina because of Leon. This is the first book in the series, but it felt like there was a lot missing from their pasts and connections. The book does flip between the past and present frequently.
Holy fucking hell!!! I swear Brittany Ann has done it again! Let me tell you, the way I binged this book is a bit unhinged. I always get mad at her and voice my opinion for sending it during the week instead of the weekend but it didn’t stop me from inhaling it like I needed it like my next breath. I seriously finished it in record time. I mean this review is coming a bit after I read it but it’s also because I’m trash and procrastinate sometimes on writing reviews
I couldn’t find the plot anywhere. Annoying characters. Spelling and grammatical errors galore.
Never did a expect to get into a racing book..
Mina & Donnie just, phew they just are everything!
Running from a life that you never want is a never ending spiral add in a little person and man oh man does it make it hard when someone you love is the reason you end up right smack dab in the middle.
I started this one late at night thinking I wouldn't be able to get into it because let me just say I was in a deep reading rut...Brittany pulled me out with this one!
Mina is that person, that mom or every mom I should say. We all put our babies before ourselves for their own good. Sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes it doesn't work out the best until we are staring at ourselves wondering who we are. Mina's journey hurt and was hard, tears were shed.
Dontell, older brothers best friend, untouchable..or is he? Man did I like him from the get go but at one point I wanted to hit him because WHYYY!! I mean I understood but I hated it. Being at the top has its disadvantages, accepting what could be is a decision that can't be made lightly. Especially with her.
Breakneck was different for me in ways but it was refreshing too. I never expected to be drawn to this book so much that I could not put it down once I started. Mina & Donnie had me in their grasp and would not let go until the end.
Brittany has this gift to give us the spice but also the thrill and mystery, this was all of that and wayy more.
I have soo many questions, I cannot wait for the next book and I am very curious to see where it goes. Lee is a character I think I might just enjoy the most.
Also the cameos of my favorite cowboys just made this -chefs kiss-

THE BURNOUT SERIES by Brittany Ann
Book 1 Breakneck (Mina & Dontell)
If you are looking for the perfect combination of dark romance, Fast & Furious style movies, with a good plot very well carried out throughout the trilogy, then welcome to Oasis… Dontell, Leon & Cain are waiting for you.
TROPES
Street racing
Brother’s best friend
Found family
Single mom
Forced proximity
After her daughter is kidnapped, Mina pushes her brother Leon out of her life. She doesn't want her daughter to grow up in the same life she was forced into. But 5 years later, her brother shows up at her house in the middle of the night to take them away because they are in danger.
Once in St. Louis, Mina does everything she can to keep everyone her brother now calls family at arm's length. And to add fuel to the fire that has become her life, there is an undeniable attraction between Lee's best friend, Dontell, and her that they both try to deny at first. Soon, Mina realizes that she is no longer alone when it comes to caring for and protecting her daughter. And when there is an enemy who wants to destroy everything her brother has built and the possible future she and her little girl can have, the only way to put an end to it is together as a family.
I really liked how the author addressed the issues that all single mothers can have when it comes to feeling like a woman again, being a person who is not just a mother, and especially when it comes to having a partner. The relationship between mother and daughter is lovely and how she faces the problems her daughter had when it comes to adjusting to school when she's not the typical girl in pink and dolls. I loved the friendship between Cleo and Aiden, Dean and Gwen's son (read their story in Batter up). I cried a lot when the two brothers had the most painful conversation of their lives, each telling their own version of the hell they experienced at the hands of their father, and how from then on they begin to heal the wounds of the past.
The book ends with a cliffhanger in terms of plot, so on to the next one….

Brittany Ann delivers another brilliant book. This book was different from the books I usually read, but I am glad that I signed up for the opportunity to read and review Breakneck. This book definitely had fast and furious vibes from the fast cars to the forbidden romance between Mina and Dontell. Mina a single mom who is determined to keep her daughter safe is brought back into the world that she was trying to escape from by her brother. Dontell is her brother’s friend who has developed forbidden feelings for Mina and he is determined to get Mina her happy ending, but there are some obstacles they need to overcome before this can be achieved.
