This book was brilliant! A fast paced, action packed urban fantasy done well. I thoroughly enjoyed the snarky wit and general badassery of Kate Daniels and admire Ilona Andrews' ability to pack so much into such a small book! I haven't read such a satisfying story in a while and can't wait to continue with the series!
Not what I was promised via recommendation plus I dislike not knowing how the world works and there wasn't nearly enough world building for me. Just vibes and comments as if I was supposed to already be familiar with how everything works and the reason there's only one skyscraper left in Atlanta because other crumbled due to tech waves???
Didn't finish. The narrator annoyed the hell out of me.

This book is a paranormal romance mystery with a feeling of a cop procedural (mc is a private investigator) and an intriguing story arc that I assume will build throughout the series. The premise of a world where outages make the world bounce between magic and technology working is novel and well done the characters are at ease with it and the exposition didn’t drag me out of the story. This book made me nostalgic for the Greywalker series, a favourite of mine, so if you liked those novels this might be for you.

Pretty much your usual urban fantasy, but the mystery was fun and I like the heroine. There's less of the usual testosterone-is-best nonsense though that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I'll probably check out the second book.
