Did not finish... gave up at 17%, maybe one day I'll try again but it just didnt do anything for me.

Fun, enjoyable urban fantasy. Like Anita Blake was at the beginning, before it went ... overly explicit.

Granted, I think LKH writes better fight scenes, but I like Ilona's world. I'll read the next one ...

I was first introduced to Ilona Andrews thanks to the Hidden Legacy series (thank you forever Mal for the rec!) So let's just say that I went into Magic Bites with pretty high expectations. It fulfilled them for the most part, but this didn't hook me in the same way. It definitely kept me entertained and intrigued, but the heavy world building and trying to understand all the magic bogged down the story. There also were about a million characters and terms to keep straight while reading. lol Kate is a great heroine though and I loved her take no prisoners/zero F's to give attitude. I'm invested enough to want to see how things play out for Kate (and also with Curran) and am sure there are lots more surprises and twists to come.

I mainly listened to the graphic audio* of Magic Bites and the added sound effects and variety of narrators made it a really enjoyable experience. Sometimes the music was a bit distracting, but overall, the graphic audio helped to visualize the action, keep the different characters straight, and added another layer to the story.

* = Graphic audio is an audiobook production that includes: sound effects, a full cast of narrators (ie: different narrators for different characters), music, etc). As the company states, it's "a movie in your mind"
