I love a good book with a strong female lead. Kate is this in spades. She is perfectly capable of taking care of herself, but is willing to admit when she needs help. I hate a story where the heroine needs to be saved by the man in the end. It's acceptable however if it's a partnership. Kate and Curran are both strong and flawed in their own ways. They make a good team, neither one needing the other to be a savior. Also, the audiobook narrator is quite good!

I am keeping this review short because I have the second book in the series and I want to read it asap. That should be an indicator of how I feel about Magic Bites. It is a highly entertaining read set in an fantastic magical world.

I could go on and on about how this urban fantasy differs from the many others, but instead I will say that I am impressed with how the author(s) made it their own.

One downside was that I would have liked to learn more about the universe the book is set in. It's mentioned frequently, but it's so interesting I just want to know all about it. Hopefully it's explored more in later books. And speaking of said books, I am off to read them...

Very interesting world and so far the author has spent time developing the characters in such a way that leads me wanting more. Not a perfect book but certainly good enough to continue the series. The chemistry between the fmc and mmc is top notch.

DID NOT FINISH

Well, here's one that just is not for me. While I do enjoy myself some good gritty writing, there's a point between enjoyable and "too far." This just feels so much like the author was trying way too hard to be gritty and edgy. If the world itself is fleshed out and the characters/story interesting enough to balance things out, that's one thing, but it just felt like Andrews was throwing one supernatural thing after another at the reader with little to no explanation. I never did figure out when this was set, or what happened with the world, but honestly I didn't really care. The most clear it ever got was Bono being referred to as a singer from way back.

I don't know. I like the idea of the vampires being primitive, murderous creatures, but having them run around naked and the way to tell how old they are is based on how shriveled their scrotums are? "Well, gee, I think this guy's about 50, but let's flip him over and give a good long look at his balls to be safe."

What?

Good world-building. Good dialogue.
