Only thing that would have made this a 5.0 book is that it is tense and sad. Great recount of the tole of history.

I won't be over this book anytime soon. Every time I opened this book to read, it felt like I was living in another era. I could see through my eyes in person right there, living with them. The 200 pages, I had to finish in one sitting because I didn't have a choice. Yes, of course I cried. Lived and loved the read.

This one reminded me very much of The Book of Lost Names, but not done as well. It was still good, but light on the history bit of historic fiction. The war and its potential as an emotional driving force was about as involved as setting an action movie in one to me.

so so sad & so so beautiful. and literature that makes us remember is very important especially now!
minus half a star because it felt like sometimes hannah heavily relies on romanticizing and that just felt off sometimes considering the very dark and serious themes of this book. and the way she handled captains beck character as a whole felt wrong. but i felt with all of the characters and a book that makes you feel and cry is always a good read
