Another weird and whacky book (in the funny sense) by Christopher Moore. Not as good as Lamb but better than Fluke.

My only grievance with these books is not in the stories but in the price. For some reason they are very expensive here in the UK. Even the Kindle versions are higher-priced than others of the same age, length etc. I'm not sure why this is but if you can wait a while for the prices to (hopefully) come down they are well worth it.

This started off so slow and weird that I almost didn't bother to keep reading it. Eventually I started too enjoy the seriously strange tale and it turned out to be pretty funny.

If I were to pick one word to describe this book, it would be "absurd". I mean that in a good way. The strange characters and off the wall elements were engrossing and entertaining. It was a fun distraction from a rough week at work, and sometimes, that is everything we could ask from a book.

Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Christopher Moore writes the right kind of characters. Sure, his plots twist and turn into unpredictable directions, like a snake, high on LSD, dancing the mamba. But I don't read him (or any book) for the plot. I read it for the characters. In this, Christopher Moore excels. His characters charmed the hell out of me. Zany but real, I think I've met a few of them in real life.

Read this book. If you're not sold in the first 20 pages, hell if I know what will appeal to you.
adventurous funny lighthearted

This was unexpectedly trashy and not in the good way. Clearly there was going to be sex, but this was not fun. Still some funny parts so I'm not going to give up on this author yet. Narrator was fantastic.

Christopher Moore is insane. But in a good way.

I read his Love Story trilogy (starting with [b:Bloodsucking Fiends|33454|Bloodsucking Fiends (A Love Story, #1)|Christopher Moore|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1298420636s/33454.jpg|1799438]), and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was going to get some Christmas (or Christmas-related) books this December, and decided to pick up [b:The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror|74731|The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror|Christopher Moore|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1331320721s/74731.jpg|4116777]. Finding out that it revisits Pine Cove, first written about in this volume, I figured I'd read this first.

And...crazy. Not sure how else to describe his books. A stoned constable, a psychiatrist with a conscience, a giant lizard, and an equally odd supporting cast round out this story that completely defies categorization.

All I can say is that if you like weird, and you like funny, check it out.

I laughed out loud...a lot.

I have yet to find a book from Christopher Moore I don't like. Each book i have read has made me laugh at loud at least a few times. Each one is funny, unique, and bizarre in the best ways. This one is not deviating from my feelings on them all. I was engaged with the large cast of characters. Each character felt real and fully developed.

This melancholy cove felt like a dream. The place felt both a little surreal and yet firmly grounded in reality. Moore has a great talent of taking truly weird and twisted even and making it feel like it could really exist in our world.

What may have added to my feelings of surreal was I read a good portion of this in Walt Disney World. It felt odd to be reading about a giant Lust Lizard while listening to Small World.

This isn't my FAVORITE Moore book, but loved it and recommend it.
