Although I didn't like this quite as much as the other Moore books I've read, I enjoyed it and read it within 24 hours. I liked "seeing" the Pine Cove characters from Practical Demonkeeping, and "Steve" was hilarious!
A quick, fun read. What happens when a local psychiatrist decides to replace her patients' meds with placebos? Oh yeah, and there just happens to be an ancient sea beast on the loose that causes the depressed inhabitants of Pine Cove to be a little amorous.
Paperback | having read ‘Noir’ by this author, and found it ridiculously entertaining, I bought this book when I saw a used copy for $6 bucks at the book store. I read it in a night and a day. This author is one talented goofball.

Hilarious, ridiculous read. Very odd, far-fetched concept for the plot. Not my normal genre at all, but after laughing out loud several times, I think I'll seek out more funny books in the future.
This was a quick and engaging read. Silly and funny. A great escape.
Funny, but not my favorite
I chose this for the title (for a reading challenge, category “the weirdest book title you can find”) and because I have read and enjoyed several of Christopher Moore’s books. I love his humor and hilarious way with language. This book is somewhat of a miss for me, though, due to the story being built around a gigantic sea monster / lizard / dragon. I enjoyed reading about the people of Pine (Melancholy) Cove, but I could have done without the sea monster (Lust Lizard). The idea that a sea monster could incite libidinous inclinations in all the townspeople suffering from low levels of serotonin was a bit much for me, as was the inter-species, ahem, romance. And, yes, if you are wondering, the details are explicit and raunchy.
The first of Moore’s books I read was Lamb, which is one of my most favorite books. I also read A Dirty Job and Secondhand Souls, and loved both of them as well. I came to this book expecting a similar experience. I did laugh at loud in a few places, but ultimately the whole premise of the story was too much of a stretch for me.

Christopher Moore is the funniest writer alive. Plain and simple. The is the fourth novel of his that I've read and have loved them all. Here, the charcaters are insanely hilarious yet somehow believeable. Remarkably crazy happenings that never make you scratch your head but mighht make you wet yourself. So, so funny! Great!
The Christopher Moore books I have previously reviewed were actually listened to on Audio rather than read. I think I might enjoy his work more in audio form.
This book as a fun, light read, and had some very funny parts but lacked the really endearing characters of some of his later work. I was looking forward to Skinner being in this book, but I didn't love him like I did in The Stupidest Angel.
Also, I just noticed after reading this book that most of Moore's work is romance novels. Hadn't noticed that before.
