I heard that the Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic run was one of Thor's best, and boy... was that advice not wrong. This is Marvel at its most mythic, with the gentle, human, and reverential touch of Aaron's writing, with the traditional grandeur of (Croatian!) Ribic's art. The storytelling is masterful, with suspense and mystery spread across three Thor timelines, featuring a villain who espouses a very modern and frighteningly relevant belief about the sins of the world's pantheons. Truly stunning all around.

This is the first Thor comic I have read for Thor himself, and not his mischievous brother, so that alone should tell you how good this was.
First off, I've loved Ribic's artwork since I read his and Robert Rodi's run of "Loki" (which is fantastic, by the way). So that is a major bonus for me.
I really loved the fact that this is a Thor book. Odin and Loki are mentioned, Iron Man makes an appearance for a page, but that is it. This really centers around The God of Thunder himself. Which is awesome. Keeping up with Asgardian politics can be a bit difficult at times, and sometimes, you just want to know what Thor has gotten himself in to.
This also does a wonderful job of giving you three Thor perspectives; in the past, when he's a young, reckless god, in modern day, where he has matured, and in the future, when he is old, and the king of Asgard. The three stories are beautifully woven together; they tell the same story, just different parts of the story. Figuring out how all of the stories work together, and how Thor's past affects his present and his future are awesome. It's a giant puzzle.
The premise as well, is rather new and cool. It's not another Ragnarok with gods fighting gods. Instead, it's this monster of sort who is killing all of the gods. It plays with the gods' mortality as well as how mortals view their gods.
Overall, just very well done. I have no complaints at all. (Except, maybe, I wish the paperback would come out sooner so I don't have to wait until June!)

Entertaining enough that I picked up the second volume as soon as I finished the first. The veins on Thor's arms were a *little* distracting, though. I did like all the different versions of Thor: the young one, the current one, and the old one, and it was especially fun to see Current and Old Thor interacting with each other.

Wow, this was a fun and very unsettling read. I was initially hesitant about the three timelines aspect of the story but the payoff is absolutely worth it.
