I found this to be a lighthearted and fun read. The characters are very endearing and entertaining. The first 40% of the book was a little slow for me. I still enjoyed it, but it was in the last 60% where I was really excited whenever I picked it up to read a few chapters. The chapters are very short which is nice to read in little bursts throughout the day.

Becoming old and content is something we all wish for. Reading about residents in a retirement village that are full of life and wonder balanced with the realities of being a senior I found to be very comforting and bitter-sweet.

There were some fun mysteries to solve alongside the characters and I’m excited to get into the next book in the series.

Highly enjoyable and funny and kept me captivated throughout the entire story. However the ending disappointed me a bit. The writer tried really hard to turn it into a plottwist no one could see coming, which resulted in me just being confused as to how the hell we got to this point? A great, light read, i just did not enjoy the ending very much. Maybe the other parts in this series I will enjoy more, since I do love all the characters and their relationships.

I really love reading books with elderly protagonists and the ones in this book are just charming. They all felt very real and I want to have tea and cake with them all.

I have a couple of small issues though. One being the sheer number of characters to keep straight in my head. It was a lot and some of the side characters weren't exactly fleshed out enough to be memorable; which is understandable but frustrating nonetheless. The other slight negative was the big reveal. It felt a bit anticlimactic when it came, even if I couldn't call it.

I had fun with it though and Lesley Manville does a bang up job of narrating the audiobook. I'll definitely carry on the series.
