I loved this book. The tone was so eerie and it was set up really well. I had an idea of where it was going but then it changed along the way and in the end I was still wrong about a lot of things, which I loved. I loved the setting and the way it was told with past and present colliding. I also loved how you could really feel the pain of Stella’s youth and her own difficulties in the present and then working out how they fit together. The story itself was so intriguing and unique. I listened to the audiobook, which felt really immersive. Also the very end was so great. I really loved it. Highly recommend!
Great characters, atmosphere, and setting but ok story. It was a bit predictable to me, even the ending which other readers were surprised by.
I felt like there were parts where the main character should have known better- as in it felt out of character for her. It was unnecessarily drawn out in the mid-towards the end, I think to give more girth to the book but just really didn't make sense for the main character, who I felt was smarter than that.
I listened to the audio book and the narration and character voices were amazing.
This is like if Silent Hill 3 were set in the country.
