For such an amazing series, I feel like this was a let down ending. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that Light had to lose some way in the end, but this just felt like such a flat landing. Like imagine a face-plant right at the end of an amazing gymnastics performance.

Yeah, that’s what this was.

I was still expecting some last big twist. Some Plan Z stuff right at the end and it becomes this whole tense action ending where it really is anyone’s chance to win. But this ending was boring; no tension, no action, and only a little drama. Because you realise it was always going to end this way - and not in a tragedy story type of way - more in a “the last 30 pages were pointless because they had already won 3 chapters ago, this was just to prove it to other people and reveal it to the audience who are bored at this point.

Only part I liked was Ryuk being the one to end Light. Like is a whole “the grim reaper has no favourites” vibe - the old “death always wins” metaphor.

And quite literally up until the last page I was waiting for there to be some big reveal of the original L to still be alive and that it was all a plan for him to monitor Light unhindered. Like, they literally took out the best character half way through the series - what a joke. I’ll never forgive them for doing him dirty like that!!

Oh não!! Acabou!! Brutal, muito bem pensado e terminado! Mas que fim...
Ainda achei que mas... Ahahah não posso dizer...
Adorei!!

For the most part, this was really satisfying. The Death Note plotline had become a tangled web of secret agents, false identities and supernatural spectres. There was a point somewhere early on in this volume where I realized that I lost track of the storyline a long time ago, and was now tiptoeing warily through a forest of unfamiliar characters and nonsensical plot twists. Because of that, it's hard to give an honest rating.
Was it just my incompetence? Or did this series become so contrived and uninteresting that it started to invite inattentiveness upon itself? I don't know, but I feel that it had to have been at least some of the latter.
My four star rating does not reflect the experience of reading a boring manga however, and that's because this is the volume that finally concludes the Death Note saga, and I thought that it was splendidly done. Because we were finally back to a simple 'Kira vs L' battle of wits, my tiny brain could finally comprehend what was happening. There was second-guessing and back stabbing and more second-guessing and yes even more second-guessing and flashbacks and the shinigami and it felt like Volume 1 again. I'm glad I suffered through the last volume and the former half of this one, because the ending is solid, I really enjoyed it.

I’m really really glad I managed to finish this series! I loved Death Note from the moment I opened vol1 and was so upset when I couldn’t buy the rest. Fate must be on my side on how I managed to acquire these volumes! I find myself torn about the ending but before I elaborate I’ll state some likes and dislikes about the whole sha-bang in general.
Pros:
I really do love the philosophical and moral themes running throughout the whole plot and concept. It leaves everyone with potential different views of the plot dependant on their ideals! I think the characters are well balanced and not too annoying or unlikeable (most of the time) and I was particularly drawn to characters like Light and Mikami for their skewed views of society and almost psychopathic/sociopathic behaviour. I also loved L and Near as opponents for Light and they both remind me of Juuzou from Tokyo ghoul! Altogether, the plot was well put together, the characters were great in complexity and the art style is sooo cool!!
Cons:
Not much to say here but still some things. I thought that at some points, the story got overly complex and even convoluted! Also Light was a weird one for character development as at one point I actually supported him but he gradually became more awful... Also L, Near and Mello were all very similar as rivals and I would have liked some more variation in their personalities.
The verdict :
This series will continue to stay with me as very notable for its interesting concepts and unique characters! Now I can’t wait to read the side novel I bought as well as watch the anime!!!

I'm not gonna lie....I saw this ending coming and was hoping that it wouldn't be the ending but it was so that's that.
