Man am I glad that Light got what was coming to him. I was fine with him in the beginning of the series but he grew into a character that I was actively rooting against. I was hoping for an epic defeat and I can’t say I didn’t get that. I think my main problem with the series is that it can get a bit convoluted and complex with them being “no I already thought of that” and “I know your plan”. Still enjoyed reading it and I’m so glad Light was defeated. Wasn’t expecting him having a full meltdown and die by his own shinigami, but I loved it.

I FRECKIN LOVED THIS SERIES. THIS WAS MY FIRST MANGA SERIES AND IT HAD SUCH AN INTERESTING CONCEPT.
THE ENDING WAS SO GOOD!! I THOUGHT LIGHT HAD WON -HE WAS AHEAD OF NEAR- BUT THAN NEAR WAS AHEAD OF HIM AGAIN AND YEA. I THOUGHT RYUK WAS GONNA SAVE HIM BUT RYUK KILLED HIM. BUT THE END THOUGH: THERE WAS LIKE A LINE OF PEOPLE GOING TO GIVE LAST RESPECTS AND WORSHIP KIRA?! AND MISA HAD THE END LINE OF THE BOOK.

The entire story covers the grey area of the idea "what would you do if you could rid the world of bad guys." Great storytelling, although misogynistic at times. The anime follows the Manga about 90% of the way.

Yes, there are good things about this manga. But there are so many MANY plot holes and only so many circular, infinity, boring as all get out, rinse and repeat logical arguments that one can take in a single manga.
