Quiet the ride

This book essentially depicts a day in the minds of a few individuals.
This one was quite the ride. I was so annoyed when I started reading it. The way it was written was just so random and I got bored and left it more than once and was so ready to throw it into the trash.
But then I decided to know more about the writer and dig deeper. After a bit of struggle I figured that you kinda need to read the lines in a specific way. You can't just read it like we do with normal books. You have to read it in a poetic, tragic and almost theatrical way.
Once I got the hang of it suddenly the words starts to make so much sense and I started to get the hang of it and get the flood of emotions that's packed in the book.
However I have to say that the characters were written in a very random ways and their were no orders to any of the events. It has the same vibe that 1001 nights book has, were a character would talk and then you will be drowned in another characters story out of the blue.
Some characters were interesting like the young man who went to war, others were just boring.

And this Mrs Dalloway character is just an egoistic, judgemental, self centric and shallow minded woman. This woman's character is unbearably tedious. This woman has an empty tin can instead of a brain. God she represents everything I hate about women during this era. This woman lived for absolutely nothing, she didn't believe in anything and didn't try to make any changes she doesn't know how to read, have a deep conversation or think. Her head was full of nothing but parties and dresses and judging words. I don't even know how a human can live like this. What a wasted life.

One of the things that almost sll the characters has was that they were so fulk of themselves, I'm not sure if this was a culture thing or it's just how the people from this era used to think.

Also the way it was written in was kinda of confusing because you're reading a normal text and then suddenly it turns into a poetry this kept on gaslighting me.
This is one heck of an experience. I'm sure some people might be drawn to this kind of experience. It was a unique experience but this book is just not my cup of tea.

*uni read

virginia woolf's way of presenting the story is so beautifully written!!!

i usually hate stream of consciousness writings but i feel like this was done in a way that fits each character. and the way that woolf smoothly transitions between each point of view is so seamless and doesn't take you out of the story at all.

i would've loved chapters though but i totally get why there weren't, it's just a lot to read at once
