I liked the idea of the story. Two workaholics who do not believe that you can juggle a relationship with work are surprised when they meet each other and experience an intense chemistry. But they live in different states so how can they make this work? Personally I felt this was a wonderful idea because the premise felt so real. I am pretty sure many people struggle with maintaining a relationship like this. I was abit disappointed that the story was not fleshed out more and it happened so fast. Had to praise Jules for not giving in about sex at first, I liked how she was honest about how she felt and stood up for her belief. The author was spot on how it feels to be ignored by a significant other like Jules was. It felt utterly sad and relatable.

“Who we loved wasn’t always a choice. Sometimes it was an irresistible pull, a gravitational force, something we couldn’t see or control that drew us toward another. Sure, we could try to fight it. But in the end, love always won because it didn’t fight fair. It had a secret weapon, a tool of sheer force to use against us—our heart. And once that son of a bitch got involved, you could kiss away all options you thought might exist.”

I recently finished my first J Sterling book, Dear Heart, I Hate You and really liked it. Cal and Jules are instantly drawn to each other after meeting at a Boston bar, while Jules is visit for a work conference. They end up hanging out with each other for the whole weekend and then continuing their friendship/relationship through text and phone calls after Jules goes back to California.
My favorite thing about this was how well the author combined insta-attraction with slow-burn - it really had the best of both worlds vibe to it. Although, I think the inevitable conflict was pretty realistic in terms of modern dating it still made me want to reach in and shake these characters a bit. All in all this was a cute, light read and it definitely won’t be my last J Sterling book.

Dear Book,

We started off not getting along but I'm glad I was patient when you went with the most cliche and obvious start. I HATED Jules for throwing herself at Cal and I definitely gave their sudden attraction a heavy eye roll. However, I'm thankful the story didn't give me the instant sex scene that led to repetitive and ongoing sex scenes or I would have never finished it. And although I got irritated with the main characters and their annoying stubbornness, you rewarded me again for being patient by giving me two awesome secondary characters (aka the main characters best friends).

My biggest issue with your story, however, was the fact that Cal was definitely written with a female bias, which did him a great disservice.

This is why I don't hate you, but I don't love you either. Let's just settle on fine, okay?

Dear Book, I despised you

One of the most boring and stupidest romances I have ever read... I speed read through this book in order to escape the drawn out immature POVs of these supposed 'adult' characters. I could hardly find development between the characters when their entire relationship seems like a 3 week texting relationship gone clingy. Great potential in chapter 1 but unfortunately it went downhill from there.

This was a good easy read. It happened very fast. They were cute and perfect. I liked the couple, they story at the end annoyed me but I understood it. Reading it we meet a couple characters I would like to know more about. His brother Cooper and his girlfriend, which I now know have a previous story. I would have liked to know these two were related so I could have read the other first. Its ok not a big deal but they way I like to read.

This was my first book by J. Sterling and I really liked it. The author totally captured all of the insecurities and happiness, the highs and the lows of life in a long-distance relationship.

Can't wait to read more!

Great book

I've read one series by J Sterling and this is my first book outside of the series. Great writing. Storylines are never too drawn out, and the character chemistry is always off the charts. Loved this book.

This was a fun sorta insta-love, cross country story that felt good and believable. Even though Jules and Cal felt something after the first weekend they spent together they didn't instantly profess their love for each other right away. Their journey with defining themselves as independent people while falling in love was fun and very relatable.

His cowardice made her a weak character. Just another insta-love that gave no reason to stand out.

Nothing impressive. Took way longer to read than it should have.
