Just baaaaarely gets four stars, because I really did it have a good time reading this, and even though it's standard YA formula, it manages to be creative and funny. It's not life changing, but I've read so much garbage YA lately I was glad to find a little gem in this story. Plus....Shakespeare and Boy Bands, yes please.

I really enjoyed this book...it's a good example of why I love YA. It's a quick and easy read--I loved how fast the story moved, but it wasn't so fast it skipped over important things. Well thought out and put together and the characters are quirky enough to fall in love with, but not so out there that they aren't relatable.

YA love story! Shakespeare! 100% wish-fulfillment! Perfect HS boyfriend named Gideon! A book I thoroughly enjoyed reading aloud.

Everything about this book feels authentic. I loved all the characters, and the situations were real to the teen experience. Sometimes the characters, dialog, and experiences in YA books are hokie, unrealistic, or both. Not so with Foolish Hearts. As an old drama geek, the workings of play rehearsals, etc. were spot on. The relationship dynamics between family members, friends- new and old-, and casual school mates felt real and not contrived, felt natural. I loved that, though I am not a gamer, I could appreciate the brief forays into MMORPG's (I even learned some new acronyms, she says with not a little bit of pride). The only criticism I have is that the cover does the book zero justice. As a school libraian, I am going to have go out of my way to encourage readers. I wish the book's cover art would showcase the quirky, endearing characters that are inside its pages. So far, this is the best book I have read this year.

Such a cute read!! I absolutely loved Gideon <3 and Claudia felt real and not cheesy in the way a lot of YA contemporary MCs are written nowadays.

Also, I LOVE how the author has a PhD in STEM and wrote many of her books during college/grad school. So unbelievably cool.

This was cute but wasn’t anything new or exciting.

I'll be honest and say that with the synopsis and cover, I probably would not have picked this up on my own. But one of the reasons why I am subscribed to Owlcrate is to sometimes be pushed out of my comfort zone. I picked this book up intending to read it in four parts with the Owlcrate Book Club Facebook group and then I read a majority of it in one day. I wasn't necessarily overjoyed by the end of chapter one, but as soon as I started chapter two, I was hooked. I loved the tie-ins of nerdy/geeky stuff, the boy band obsession, and the A Midsummer Night's Dream play. It had so many good things in it. I loved that a family dynamic was present because I feel it is absent in a lot of YA. I also fell in love with so many of the characters. Claudia spoke to me. She is my spirit animal. And the love interest was great.
