So cute!! Really moving, too. I definitely need to get my hands on First & Then now!
3.5 stars.
This book was a wild ride. I really loved the first 60% or so and then it turned into The Edge of Seventeen and then Claudia did some stupid shit and all the maturity and wisdom I thought she had vanished into the mist. And it kind of felt like her character was mangled to manufacture conflict for the story. But then I started enjoying it again towards the end and then it ended rather abruptly. Also there were a whole bunch of laugh out loud and try not to pee your pants moments. So basically I am just thoroughly confused about how to rate this book. It was both really good and kind of pissed me off.
Also I couldn’t put it down.

And Gideon's character seemed positively unrealistically saintlike at some points, Claudia definitely didn't deserve him at times. Also I couldn’t put it down.
This was a cute YA realistic fiction book. I love when books focus on sibling relationships. It sharpens a fictional world and adds character. There is so much personal and relationship based growth in this book. However, the romance between Claudia and Gideon felt forced. I never liked Gideon to begin with, he was a very unrealistic and cheesy character. Nonetheless, this book was so memorable :)
This one was a surprise for me, but I really enjoyed myself while reading it!
Also, has anyone else noticed the seemingly large amount of YA contemporaries are set in Indiana?

Oh, Iris. Iris, Iris, Iris. Intense, obsessive, alienating Iris. Happy crier, idiot piner, giver of zero fucks and simultaneously a lot of fucks Iris. Blunt, selfish asshole with the emotional range of a teaspoon Iris. I need someone to read this novel and reassure me Iris and I are not the same person. Stat.
In other news, I enjoyed this book in a way I haven't enjoyed reading in awhile. It was exactly my sense of humor and there were a lot of #relationshipgoals moments. Like I would work the standing in line for funnel cake and driving to bus stop bits into wedding vows level of #goals moments.
Plus there were boy bands and Shakespeare and MMORPGs, and "nine inch subs, fifty percent more than a six-inch Subway sub" sandwiches.
I liked it kind of a lot?
And laughed out loud a ton?
