I L-O-V-E-D looooved this book! Here's why:
1) I am not so bothered by reading a foreign/translated book, although this was not always the case. It used to bug me when I would read about a place like Braas, having no idea where it was geographically, how to pronounce it, or a feel for how far from Aker it might be. Now I just say to myself, "Bra's" and "Ah-cur" and read on.
2) Ditto for foreign names.
3) If a work of fiction uses bits of true history in broken-up, completely (or slightly) skewed ways, my panties are not in a bunch. How much of what we believe to be true anyway, probably isn't -- and this author's versions are much more entertaining and fun.
4) Some reviewers thought this was a big long story about nothing, and it kind of is. But the bits of humor and looping plot was enjoyable to read. Plus, it gives us hope that if we live to be 100, we too could escape out a window and have an amazing adventure.
Here is a quote that hints at the book's general tone. "When Bucket was cleansed of Sonya's excrement, he was put under the backseat of his own Ford Mustang. Normally there wouldn't have been room for him, but now he was neatly flat." Not your cup of tea? Don't seek out this book.

Die verwachtingen zijn niet uitgekomen, dit boek is namelijk heel anders. Wel heb ik ervan genoten! Het is een avontuur vol fantasie en humor.
