J'ai trouvé que le livre met du temps à commencer. Mais il est marrant, c'est un centenaire qui a vécu toute sa vie une suite d'événements improbables mais qui a toujours fait confiance au destin et il a raison de le faire. Un roman de détente qui finit bien, je le recommande pour des vacances à la plage par exemple. C'était assez drôle, surtout à la fin.

If I was to rank every single book I have ever read from best to worst, this book would probably be almost slap-bang in the middle. It's neither particularly brilliant nor awful, it's just alright. Perhaps it suffers from the translation from Swedish but I found it to be written in a rather mechanical 'blunt' fashion, this had its own particular charm in the way that simple cartoon narration might do. The story itself reminded me quite a lot of Forrest Gump with the protagonist unwittingly involved in many historical events. However, the 'main' story is rather ridiculous and was seemingly written 'off the cuff' with little planning. At times this results in some abstract humour, at others it meant I couldn't care less what was actually going on. The ending does tie the book up neatly though. So overall, I probably won't read it again but it's probably worth reading if you have nothing else available.

I had high hopes. But it was boring and I didn’t like the writing.
It was a bookclub book that I loved. Kwirky, full of interesting stories, and lots of laugh out loud moments that were just as funny when I turned back to the beginning and started again after I read the last paragraph.
Others in my bookclub had difficulty with the language in the book as it had been translated from the Swedish, but having consumed my way through the Millennium series I was happy with the cadence and hadn't actually noticed until someone mentioned it.
I loved the little snippets of world history having been moulded into narrative.
