This was a good enough book but I felt like the flashbacks were more distracting than anything. I don't know that I would be interested in continuing to read the series.

Brenna Spector is a private eye who can’t forget anything she has ever seen or heard and you will not be able to forget Brenna after you read this exciting new suspense thriller, the first in a new series by Alison Gaylin.

For fans of the new TV series Unforgettable another interesting look into the curse and the blessing of the rare disorder that Brenna has. The condition that is a great boon to her professional life of finding missing persons is also a great burden in her personal life.

Liked this book and it's mystery up until the end, I was not happy with the way the Iris mystery came about.

For me this book was all about the characters. Gaylin has created some wonderfully complex ones.

Sadly I got a bit confused and bored. The little enlightening parts of the story weren't enough to captivate me in the end.

I flew through this really thoughtful, entertaining book. The whodunit part of the mystery ended in a way I didn’t expect, but it felt a bit forced and anticlimactic. Some of the “bad guys” were fantastic, and the ride to get to the end was so great that I could overlook the disappointing twist. The psychological aspect, Brenna’s disorder, is fascinating and makes the story so unusual, but also really contributes to what is happening. There were some lovely and thought-provoking lines and fascinating, flawed characters, and just really good writing. I am definitely planning to check out more in this series.

I didn't think I'd like this book. I just picked it up because I was on my way to an infusion (where you sit for 3 hours getting IV meds pumped into your arm) and I had nothing to read. I grabbed it with a water bottle from the local CVS. But it surprised me! I actually liked the main character, Brenna Shannon, and it never got too sappy into romance details. The writing wasn't as horrific as I thought it would be either. The mystery kept me involved near the end. The only thing that bugged me was the constant mentions of technology and social media. As if it were something recently discovered that needed to be mentioned and explained constantly. Drove me a little crazy. But I might pick up another book in this series.

I bought this ebook because it sounded interesting and because it was discounted. It ended up exceeding my expectations. I love it when that happens.

Brenna Spector is a single mother working as a P.I. after her divorce. (By the way, I thought it was refreshing that the author didn't demonize the ex, which happens so much in books nowadays.) Brenna suffers from a rare disorder that gives her the ability (and curse) to recall every detail of her life. As a child, Brenna watched her older sister get into a strange blue car, never to be seen again. Not only did this event kick-start her disorder, but it continues to color many other aspects of her life.

Brenna is hired by the husband of a woman named Carol Wentz, who has disappeared. Brenna eventually uncovers the fact that Carol was doing some investigating of her own -- into the disappearance of a neighboring child years before.

The story has twists you don't see coming, and interesting backstory interspersed with the plot. What I really loved was Brenna's burgeoning friendship with police Detective Nick Morasco. Whether exploring Brenna's lingering feelings and regrets about her ex, or the guilt and fear of a possible new relationship, the author did a terrific job of making you feel what the characters did, while avoiding cliches.

I will definitely be reading Alison Gaylin's next book.
