First time re-reading this in over a decade. Still adore it as much as I did the first time and I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to pick up on some stuff that I missed as a tween reading this book.

This is truly a beautiful book. Pullman has succeeded in creating a parallel, fantastical world of such detail and imagination that it is impossible not to get sucked in. He writes eloquently, with a sophisticated air of a wise and magical story teller.
first read of the year and she's a childhood favourite! i don't know what made me pick this up again after 11 years, but it's just as good the second time around and i just can't believe i never read the other books in the series!
An excellent example of “hated it as a kid, loved it as an adult”!
It was recommended but I'm not into political intrigue.
I read the first couple of chapters. Vaguely interesting but too convoluted. I've flicked through and it doesn't seem easier to read later.
