Appropriately horrifying in a What Is Happening kind of way, which is resonant with me. Strong themes, but not the most striking of Ito's work. Fun popcorn read.

This one wasn't my favorite Junji Ito by all means, but I had a really fun time reading it, and as always, there were some extremely disturbing scenes and images. I enjoyed the two bonus stories at the end of this edition as well!

I am sad to rate it this low, cause The Enigma of Amigara Fault is one of my favorite pieces of work by Junji Ito, but the main plot just felt a little bit flat. The art is still great tho and I did have a lot of fun reading. But when the bonus chapters are the best part of the book, you might have a problem.

Horor yang agak konyol. Bagian ikan berkaki itu lucu, tapi pas manusia kena gas, jadi sedikit horor.

Story wasn't really that memorable, as usual junji ito has some grotesque body horror.

🧠 My thoughts
I liked the depth of this story compared to some other ones I’ve read from Junji Ito. The historical elements as well as the descriptions of the horror elements were very nice to read.

However, the ending left me hanging and disappointed. I’m a fan of the opening ending because usually, the endings have some deep meanings that make you think. But this ending purely just made me feel like there should be more to the story but the author just decided to stop there.

👍 What I like
  • The story has depth
  • Good descriptions

👎 What I don't like
  • Empty open ending
  • Feels like there should be more to the story but the author just decided to stop there
