Faking with Benefits

Lily Gold

3.86 AVERAGE

A RH romance crawling with angst and laughable moments! Thank god it’s why choose because I honestly couldn’t choose one if I tried. Workaholic Layla lives across the hall from three guys who run a successful relationship advice podcast: Josh, Zack, and Luke. The guys help her learn how to date by each “fake dating” her. A really fun plot that provides the perfect amount of history and baggage for each MC. Themes of trauma, grief, vulnerability, trust, exploration, bullying, independence, and forgiveness. And spicy too obviously so it’s a winner for me

JOSHUA TRAN THE MAN THAT YOU ARE. Him and Layla made this a five star read for me. Zach is objectively the worst and Luke is too old to be as dim and self-pitying as he is but WOW Joshua made up for them and then some. Layla is also such a bad bitch and for such raw and relatable reasons, I was rooting for her at every turn. This was my very first reverse harem romance and while I’ve read better since (I believe in Nanny for the Neighbors supremacy), this is definitely a great place to start with the trope and Gold does an impeccable job of developing these relationships in a real sex positive and sexy way. If Zach wasn’t so insufferable and Luke so strangely concerned with all the wrong things, this would be my favorite of Gold’s reverse harems because Joshua Tran is my favorite love interest of ALL of them.
The smut is HOT, even Luke’s sometimes cringe inner monologue doesn’t entirely ruin it. All in all, I recommend the others more than I recommend this one but START with this one and you’ll truly appreciate the others.

Disclaimer: This trope is not for everyone.

This was such a fun read. Who would have thought a reverse harem and rom com could go together!? But hey Lily made it WORK!!!

What started out as a way for Layla to learn how to
properly date turned into a real steamy situation. Layla asks her 3 neighbors, who have also been her closest friends for years, to teach her how to date. We all know how well these scenarios play out

A bit too much sex in inappropriate places for my taste but the writer made me mostly care about the characters, that was good

This book was everything I didn’t know I needed. Sweet, funny, spicy. I started reading RH over 4 years ago and have read over 400 of them. Rarely do I ever get a romcom RH. I LOVE this book and will be buying a physical copy to add to my bookshelf!!
