Analysis;
For Anthony, irony takes the place of the Holy ghost, meaning that it is all-encompassing and embedded in the very fabric of the universe. He is aware that he exists in a world that, through fashion and beauty, pretends to be something that it is not—but he participates in this project of performativity. His attempts to be a member of this ironic society make him feel as though, like oil in water, he cannot mix with it. Sometimes this inability to mix makes him feel as though he is a man made of superior substance.

Read this on my kindle for iphone, so mostly in waiting rooms. Very evocative of the 20s, and the characters are indeed beautiful and damned. Great writer.

I did not like it as much as Gatsby but this is more of a pre-WWI novel where Gatsby is about the 20s, and I prefer that period in Europe. A sort of good ending. But similar to Gatsby so literally could have read that. But not bad.
