Wild.

Oh boy. I did not know what I was getting myself into with this book. I’d classify it more as erotica than anything else. Honestly the smut was 5/5. These characters fucked for 35 pages straight without it getting boring. I am impressed. The sex scenes were varied and HOT. Definitely pay attention to the trigger warnings! The plot was basically just mildly sprinkled in between the spicy scenes. This book could have been pretty good if the plot mattered a tiny bit more and if there was actually a resolution to it. I would have been curious to learn about the fall out of Dahlia sucking at her job and what the consequences were of the evil vampires and their spell book. The ending was pretty unexpected. Definitely could have gone without the cringey dialogue and awkward pop culture references.

It’s been a long time since a book has genuinely surprised me.

We have an FMC vampire-slaying witch and an MMC vampire, set in Venice in the modern world.

The spice is BDSM, so check your trigger warnings.

I do appreciate the changes the author did with “traditional” vampire methods. No draining people and bringing them back to life, no tropes like garlic/crosses, and only 3 things can kill a vampire (a special blade to the heart, decapitation, and fire). The vampires also can’t control themselves when they feed and require “spotters” to keep themselves from killing their snacks.

So will our FMC fall in love with the vampire before she’s supposed to kill him?

The writing was fine and the plot was okay, but the FMC/MMC back and forth was perfect.

The ending…. Jaw on the floor, can’t wait to start book two!
