Audiobook read by William Roberts.

Sometimes I laughed. Other times I thought "This is kind of stupid". Other times I just plain forgot to pay attention. I always liked extreme exaggeration for humor's sake, but apparently it can get old after awhile.
funny informative lighthearted reflective medium-paced

As an Englishman living in America for four years and counting, it was great to read Bill Byrson's observations on the differences between Britain and America. Very funny and astute.

Definitely already read this a few years ago.

This book is basically a collection of short stories. And since it's Bill Bryson, it's a hilarious collection. Definitely worth the read, especially if you're going to America (maybe a bit less so if you actually ARE a US citizen).

Despite finding it very funny, I only give it 3 stars because like I said it's basically a short story collection, and unless very good, I tend to give 3 stars to though, for the often varied quality of the stories.

This book was great as a change of pace. Because it is broken up into articles, it was easy to read for a few minutes and put it down.

A collection of mildly entertaining musings of American life from the perspective of someone who’s lived abroad two decades and recently returned to living in the States. Each short piece was published as a weekly column in a friend’s British journal. The chapter on filing taxes was a delight. As a whole, it’s not the best I’ve read of Bill Bryson.

Laugh out loud FUNNY!!

I love this you quippy, often delightfully ornery commentary on life in America by this eloquent American-cum-British author.

This was a really fun and engaging read! It’s a collection of small articles and observations that Bryson made for a newspaper, after moving from the UK back to the United States. It’s written in the second half of the nineties and it’s like a time capsule! All the things we were worried and annoyed over then that are a distant past - and some things that really haven’t changed. Like filling out government forms or calling helpdesk - that’s just the same.
