Chalice

This is a perfect coffee break book that dabbles with BDSM but doesn't go into too much detail, whilst it is put in a science fiction backdrop.

Chalice is a four-elemental mage but his magic is out of control. In a world where magic users are paired off into dominant and submissive roles, it is usually the strong magic user who is dominant, except in this case. Chalice is a submissive and isn't getting the support he needs at home. This means that he is increasing the risk of his magic being completely out of control, followed by disaster. He decides to strike out on his own and find himself a Master. He finds Terrin - a Master that goes through submissives like water through a sieve. He is intrigued by Chalice though, and is determined to make him his own. These two are more like Partners than D/s, but still, it is a quick, fun and steamy read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella, complete with the quick world and character-building. I am hoping for more from this series. Smoothly paced and with a hint of things to come, definitely recommended.

An interesting sci-fi, D/s story. I liked Chalice, very much, but wasn't particularly sold on Terrin. He said and did all the right things by the end, but some of his thoughts in the beginning were off-putting.

I liked this overall--The only thing I though could I would have liked more is if it had been longer, the ending most especially felt a little rushed.

Also just a side note, with the series called “Planetary Submissives” I suppose I thought there would be, you know more submitting, etc. going on when in actuality while Chalice did answer to his master there was only one spanking and no kinky sex like I had thought there was going to be.

Now that is not necessarily a bad thing—I did like the book and Chalice was submissive with a dominate partner—a very sexy one at that—it was a fast, sexy and fun read and I am going to pick up the next book ASAP!

This was a quick lunch read and I enjoyed this intro into the planetary submissives world getting to know Chalice and Terrin. I would have liked it to be longer but was not put off in the least by the quick resolution to the story or the coming to terms with their love for each other after just a few encounters. It's a BDSM-Lite book and the premise of the series has great promise but I have serious reservations about continuing to read the series and it has to do with editing and price.

Editing: Would have liked the book to have had a quick once-over by the editorial staff to catch missing words, misspelled words and several other grammar issues but since the book was so short, I didn't let it bother me so much. I seem to keep finding these and it does deter me from buying future books from the author if they're with the same publisher as I feel I'm not getting the best work from the author.

Price: Be mindful the Kindle price is extremely high for this very short read.

One of Kell's better books. Heated, interesting and enticing.

The first in a science fiction/fantasy series that also includes some light BDSM (at least, light so far), Chalice was an enjoyable read. For readers who want to read a book with those themes, but aren’t sure whether or not they’d like them, I’d actually recommend this one because it’s light enough in all areas that it shouldn’t make anyone uncomfortable if it doesn’t turn out to be their cup of tea.

Chalice is a prince, but unlike his father and two brothers, he is a submissive, which turns out o to be a problem. In this future world, it seems like all people are either Doms or subs, and pair off accordingly, and all magic users are Dominant. Except for Chalice. His father doesn’t accept this, however, and it’s causing problems for the young prince, who needs someone to help balance his enormous power. Being a four elemental magic user is tough enough, but without someone to ground him, his powers are uncontrollable. So Chalice does what he thinks will be best for him, and he goes off planet to find himself a Master. And when he meets Emperor Terrin, he knows he’s met his match.

While I liked Chalice as a character, at first I didn’t like Terrin. He was overly possessive of the pet he just met (the subs in this universe), and his treatment of Chalice bothered me. But he did grow on me once he explained his reactions to certain things.

Zall was actually the character I liked the most, and I’m happy to see he will be featured in another book. Zall starts off as a slave that Terrin is about to punish, but Chalice steps in, and Zall ends up becoming a sort of valet and bodyguard to Chalice (even though the prince doesn’t really need him as a guard).

At times the pacing of the book felt off, particularly at the end, but overall I enjoyed the progression of the story. I look forward to reading the next two books in the series to see if Chalice and Terrin return, who Zall ends up with, and what other characters are introduced.
