I view this as a very special book by a woman who is the daughter of a famous actress who would not
be known by young readers nor would her stepdad be known. So I really think this is a book for older people as the book ties everything back to her mother and her stepdad Daddy Wagner. Her mother was a very famous actress Natalie Wood who died young in a tragic boat accident when Natasha her daughter who wrote this to honor her family was 11 y o and in a very close yet not healthy relationship with her mother. Later as a reader I could see that what she brought to her relationship with her mother was there in any close relationship - anxiety fear difficulty with separation and overburdened belief in her role and dismissal of herself.
In this book I as the reader follow her growth and development and I admire her. Its not a pretty story or a pretty life and yet she has faced herself and deep hurts within the family with her sister courtney and her aunt Lana and her grandmother.
This is a very special book..

This was an honest and unsensational book. I'm very glad to have read it. It made me realize how much of what we believe is pure media hype.

Gripping, emotional, and insightful. I found it to be exactly what it promised - an intimate, at-home portrait into Natalie Wood’s life and that of the author, her daughter, Natasha Gregson-Wagner. I found the book in the memoirs section, so I was not surprised to find it to be a picture of the author’s life as well. In 11 years, Natalie made a phenomenal impact on her daughter’s life, and that’s powerful. It was gracious if Natasha to share with us.
Moderate: Drug abuse, Death of parent
Minor: Gaslighting
Beautifully crafted memoir by Natalie Wood’s elder daughter. She looks clearly and compassionately at her mother’s life and death as well as how Wood’s tragic death impacted the entire Wood-Wagner family. Natasha Gregson Wagner has written a beautiful and insightful story about her family and coping with loss that should resonate with readers. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.
I received this book through Goodreads Giveaway for a fair review. I didn't know much about Natalie Wood besides her movies and her tragic death. The book was heartbreaking. I know how many of us admire celebrities and mourn them when they pass away but I think sometimes we forget that they have families as well and for Natasha and her sister to lose their mother at such a young age in the public eye. It was hard to read at times their struggles and how complete strangers, as good as their intentions may have been, felt as though the can come up to them to talk about their mother while they were still grappling with the loss while still having to share her with the world. It was a good read to see how she and her family dealt with the loss and the continuing fascination with Natalie Wood, and those who keep trying to capitalize on what happened.
