Absolutely phenomenal! This is what I want all autobiographies to be. It really sounds like you are just hanging out with them chatting about stuff.
Super funny and honestly just delightful

Funny I guess, but I was not expecting it to just be one unorganized trail of thought? If you ask me what the overarching progression/plot of this book is, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. But I can say that Mindy’s obsession with calories, fat, and diets is insane. Sorry girl I tried
This book came highly recommended, so I was eager to read it. It's a quick read; if you have several consective hours free one day, you could finish this book in 2 hours max. This book is just okay. I was expecting an uproariously funny memoir from a "breakout" talent. Instead it was a highly boring collection of stories from her life or random out-of-place observations. Now, I don't watch The Office so this is my first time meeting Mindy Kaling. Perhaps this is her voice and my enjoyment of the book would increase with increased familiarity with her work. I felt like she was trying too hard to be funny & witty. It came off as awkward, and not in the charming, the underdog wins sort of way. I did laugh heartily during the story about why she stopped eating cupcakes. It was very relatable, unlike the majority of the stories in this book.
Oh Mindy, you make me laugh. And I do appreciate your distaste for roasts. I do, however, question your reference to BB&N as artsy. I think everyone I went to high school with would probably be amused at that idea. I mean, hello, they actually have a football team!
Hilarious. Had me laughing out loud almost every page. I think the people on the plane with me thought I was crazy. Easy, light, quick read. Great vacation book.
I wrote a letter to Mindy Kaling after reading her book. It went like this:
Hey, Min!
Sooooo...I just finished reading your book, and I am convinced that we should be best friends. I think we would be a great team. You telling stories and jokes. Me laughing at your stories and jokes. I would never make fun of you for your bad haircuts or frumpy clothes. Well, maybe I would. But I would feel terrible afterwards and offer an apology. I have enclosed a photo of myself in third grade with a "mushroom" cut that my hairdresser told my mom looked "really cute" on another little girl.

I received a quick response very shortly after (because best friends don't make best friends wait for a reply):
It was worth a shot, right?
Seriously, though. I am pretty sure we should be best friends. I found myself marking page after page of things that really made me laugh or exlaim out loud, "Yes! EXACTLY!", which is tough to do in the non-fiction category.
Example 1:
Once Internet Inventor-Marrying Mom gave me an unopened bottle of Clinique Happy that someone had given her and she knew she'd never use. "It's not fancy or anything," she said sheepishly, as though she were handing me a bottle of Lady Musk by Walmart. "What in the world?" I thought. "Clinique isn't fancy anymore?"
Example 2:
Getting professionally beautified was all that I dreamed about doing when I was an asexual-looking little kid.
Example 3:
My playlists are humiliating because my workout mixes have dorky titles, like "Go for It, Girl!" and "You Can Do It, Mindy!" You might also see that some of my playlists are simply two songs on repeat fifteen times, like I'm a psycho getting pumped up to murder the president.
Just flipping through for a few examples had me stopping at other (much longer) marked sections and adoring Mindy all over again.
If you haven't a clue who Mindy Kaling is, YOU SHOULD STILL READ THIS BOOK. I only kinda sorta knew, but look - now we're BFFs!
The cover is adorable (seriously, ADORABLE), there are photos galore, and you don't feel like this is someone trying to hold back to avoid looking like a fool nor is she someone who is making things up to sound more cool.

Pure mindless, fun reading. I liked this so much better than "Bossypants"--maybe because I had lower expectations to start with?--although it's of the same ilk. A great vacation read.
This came recommended by a librarian so I thought I would try it out. I guess it's just not my cup of tea. I don't know the actress or the show she's on, and while she's a clever and funny writer, I guess I just wasn't in the right mood. I read a bit, but I'm moving on.
