I'm really enjoying this reread, the plot is a bit absurd and sometimes chaotic but overall I enjoyed every little bit of it.
I wouldn’t have made it through this book without the audiobook. I’m basically going to be comparing the book to the tv show for each book. Thank god the show was nothing like this book. It was very confusing and some events that happened were kind of stupid. Damon and Stefan are definitely not as loveable as they are in the show. Bonnie was kick ass chick in the show with her powers but she was lame in the book. I also Lee forgetting that Elena has a sister and not a brother. Caroline is extremely annoying and the evil force/creature in this book wasn’t that interesting.
I will continue to read this series however because they do have an audiobook and I want to see how far the show went from the events in the book.

2...Only due to my obsession with these characters...The plot was decent, BUT was SOOOOO drawn out! Get on with it already! When it finally did, Elena's character's evolution was silly! I hope the next one is better...

This series is really starting to irritate me. Elana is so irritating! And everyone just adores her. Ugh. And Damon being possessed by a demon? Like he really needed help to be more evil. It was redundant and fairly boring.
It’s been a freaking month and I FINALLY finished this bloody book. I think it was the kitsune plot that made me not want to read, but I forced myself to finish it because I really wanted to read all the tvd books. I really hope the next book is better
I have to start out by saying I love this series. I read it way back when and they will always have a place in my heart. That being said, this book was a little confusing for me. I wasn't quite sure why exactly the were fox were in Fell's Church and why exactly they wanted to destroy the town. There were also some times I was like, "huh?", and some parts that I thought were kinda lame. But at the same time, there were some parts that were really good.
I know that there are two more books after this one, so maybe once I read those, this book will make more sense.

So I'm about 90% sure that two different authors wrote this book. Or L.J. Smith herself just stopped giving a sh**. Whichever. After about 150 pages in, the writing style was more the old descriptive, flowing L.J. Smith style we've seen in her older books. But the first 150 pages of crap were just that-- crap. Clumsy, boring, and hastily written, it's as if Smith wrote the majority of the book first, when she was in her "flow", and then wrote the beginning of the story the day before her deadline. Or worse, had somebody else write it for her (think bad Richelle Mead style). The dichotomy in the book is just too great to not notice. The story itself is so-so, and steps futher into the realm of the mystical. New Smith readers beware, and don't bother with this one as her old stuff is so much better. Old Smith fans, get ready to be disappointed...
