L.J. Smith

3.1 AVERAGE

After almost 17 years, L.J. Smith has returned to the Vampire Diaries series. This continuation picks up where the last book left off, with Elena, a high school girl, and Stefan, her vampire love-interest, reunited after her death and return from the spirit world. Elena has transformed into an angelic creature with powers of Light, which also make her the target for the supernatural residents of Fell's Church. Damon, Stefan's vampiric brother, is still drawn to Elena, but so are a pair of kitsune twins.

This book is a clunky continuation of a popular series and, because there are vampires and it has a new TV show, it will most likely be a highly-requested title. The language is dated and the characters are beyond unrealistic. While the original storyline ended in 1992, this book takes place in the present, which means the author works in many unnecessary references to technology like mobile phones and laptop computers. Elena's transformation is awkward; she has become an "innocent being," but the other characters must struggle with her flying around, Tinkerbell-like, without clothes and often kissing people to recognize them. This book misses the appeal of the earlier series. There are so many better vampire/supernatural books out there - do your collection a favor and skip it.

I loved the original vampire diaries and was super pumped to read this one, well let me just say that it is way different/weirder and I could barely finish it. What happened to just normal vampire stuff and none of the crazy stuff that is in this one???

I was really looking forward to the next book series in The Vampire Diaries bit I was quite disappointed with this as it got a bit ridiculous and less imaginable. I liked finding out more about the characters which is why I am carrying on reading them but I don't like the way one of the main characters (Elena) isn't a likable character as I want to like the main characters (or some of them) that I am reading about.

So disappointed with this book. I really loved the series up until this point. It has been a while since I read the book that came before this one so perhaps that is why it felt so disjointed to me. It was sadly quite dull and boring. Elena starting out as a pure innocent childlike mind and floating around the place…. The story just seemed to drag on for me and I really struggled to finish it. Everything I have read of Smith’s work to date I have enjoyed greatly but this just did not grab me at all. Very sad to say that I am now reluctant to finish the last 2 books in this series after finding this instalment so dissatisfying.

By far the worst of the series. It's like she felt the need to continue a series that would have been better off had she not...just because they made a TV show out of it. This book is all over the place, it left me wondering what the hell was going on. And instead of just coming out and saying what was going on, the language of the book was too descriptive, to a point where the reader doesn't know what's going on.

The first four books had a good ending, this just ruins that for me.

The villians are funny b/c they don't make any sense. Damon is all over the place, the characters don't sound like they did in the first books which makes this so much harder to read. It feels like the writing level of these books was far below those first four.

1/5 stars, do not read.

"Wings of Redemption"? Not so much. This is the 5th book in The Vampire Diaries series, and it is by far my least favorite book. The first four books were written in the early 90's, and this one was published in 2009, it is as if L.J. Smith forgot who her characters really were and came up with the plot of this story on a whim, purely for the sake of getting another book out there. The writing in this book was just bad. I am bummed about the story in this book and that it seems we have not seen the last of the twins. I would have given this book 1 star, but I am still invested in the characters and want to see where their journey goes. I only hope that the sixth book is better.

I think this series is just getting worse and worse.
The first book wasn't too terrible, but it has just gone downhill from there.
medium-paced

Just stop after this. Not worth it to read the other million sequels.Totally unneeded.

I'm just going to review all of the books of this series(except the last one) here so if you don't want to know, don't read this.
This series had potential, I really enjoyed it, until Elena dies book where it just got really confusing and unnecessary. It started to feel like the author was dragging it out because she knew there was an audience and so she was milking it for all she could. Unfortunately,I am one of those sucks that reads a cliffhanger and has to know what happens next, so I have read all of them. It's really annoying and I have no one to blame but myself... And the author
