I finally had to abandon this book as it couldn't hold my interest enough to finish it!! :(
This is the worst book I have ever read. I loved the original series from the '90s, but this reboot made absolutely no sense.

I started reading tis series because I love the show. However, I'll stick with the show, the books just don't do it for me!!
we been knew i was gonna hate this. im not reading them for the story tbh. im a tv show stan so im always gonna hate the books bc they're so different to me but i also want to read them just so that i know what actually happens in the original story. im skimming through them a lot tho and not reading every single thing, i just want to have a overview about what happens in the books. so since im getting through them rather quickly i dont mind reading them even if im not enjoying them.
I love Vampire books, but I was not a fan of LJ Smith. I picked up the book because so many of my friends had raved about. I read the book but found Elena to be annoying and unbelievable as a character. I have recently purchased Nightworld which is another LJ smith and seems to be a better read.
i really could not get into this book it took me ages to read there was parts that i thought could be interesting but then it would go back to being not so good. i found it very unrealistic i know fantasy books are not real at least other books are more realistic than this book was. i will probably read the rest of these books as this series are up and down.
It is much darker than the first four and little off track. It is very heavy and lengthy and also scary in contrast to the 16 chapter long, light, easy to read earlier editions.
I personally liked this edition better than the first three, my favorite still stays as the fourth edition. Now, there were a couple chapters here and there that were a little slow, but the rest of them made up for it. Another thing that made it a little hard to read was that if you have been reading this series, then you're used to reading 16 chapter long books. This book is 39 chapters, and 14 pages shy of 600, so it is very long and a little hard to get used to.
I think this book was definitely different than the rest, but still amazing. L.J. Smith knows how to write amazing stories and thats a fact, in my book anyways. It is much darker than the earlier books, but if you are old enough to handle that then you're fine. I recommend this to all L.J. Smith's fans and people who love YA, but are looking for a little more of a grown up YA.

So confused about this book. It was way to long not sure why it was dragged on so much there where so many unnecessary plot lines that it just got confusing and nothing made sense. I'm happy Damon was a central character but also why was Stefan in like 2% of the book. Also wtf was the ending I swear to god if Elena is getting feelings for Matt I'm going to loose the will to live.
