I listened to the audiobooks, and I am not sure if I had ended up giving the series a whole 5* if I had had to "read" them. I definitely loved all the books - but they definitely have some slow parts - especially the Daenerys parts later on got a bit boring actually if you ask me. But this is were the audiobook factor comes in - while such parts will make me slow down and get annoyed while actually reading it myself -with audiobooks I just breeze through them, as the narrator doesn't slow down. And then I tend to forget I was a bit bored as soon as the pace picks up again.
So, in my completely subjective view - I did love them all - listened to the whole series out so far in about 3 months time, and always, always wanted more. So despite all it's flaws I will still give the whole 5*, as I really enjoyed the whole journey as a whole, and wouldn't want to miss any of it!

I am enjoying this book but it feels like more of a winter book than a summer book.

Okay, George, get on your horse and get this thing done.

Great storytelling, attention to detail, and character development. However, by Book 5, the rape and torment of women really wore me down. The female characters are very strong, but I actually feel stress about what rape or torture scene I will have to read next. In Book 5, there are also too many characters and kingdoms to keep up with as POV changes from chapter to chapter.

Rapey, incestuous fantasy recounting of War of the Roses.

Me gustó! Hubo muchas cosas inesperadas y quiero leer el que sigue!!

As someone who picked up the series after I'd enjoyed several seasons of the TV series, I was overjoyed and just how much MORE there is about all the characters and places.

Game of Thrones is a low fantasy setting, with most magical elements like undead and dragons being relegated to the background. Much of those fantastical elements are long gone or dead, and are slowly making a resurgence. The vast majority of the pages just cover interactions between people and factions. The big change for me from 'standard' fantasy is that the heroes really die, and regularly. A lot of people bash the 4th and 5th books. They shouldn't in my opinion - and though they're definitely not as good as the first 3 books, are they bad? Heck nah!

If you love the medieval setting you will love the books. GRRM created a world that is just so rich with well-written character arcs and setting tidbits. So much lore and history in this world. From The Wall in the North to the Iron Islands and across the Narrow Sea, you will enjoy this world and the many different POV chapters.
