The Hike will draw you in, keep you on The Path til the very end, and then it will sucker punch you when you least expect it and you’ll never be the same.

I wrote this review nearly one year after listening to The Hike. Because after nearly one year, it is still a book I think about constantly. Labyrinthine and wonderfully narrated, The Hike takes the reader on an expedition through the absurd and into the quasi-philosophical. The way in which the story is thought-provoking hearkens to Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder ... but this novel is far more entertaining and far less serious. This was my first novel by Drew Magary and now, every time I am hunting for my next book, I realize this story is the high that I am chasing, the likes of which I may never experience again.

This book is unforgettable. Such a wild ride and page turner. I’m so glad I stumbled upon this book at my local library.

Wonderfully odd and sad and poignant. And a crab.

THAT ENDING ?!?!?!! literal goosebumps wtf did i just read

It's a fast read and a page turner, and has a lot of fantastic, unexpected turns, but ultimately it's about a white guy coming to appreciate his family. Which is OK I guess? At least I can move the book out of my house.
