This book was so rich in detail and setting that it even came through in the audiobook, which doesn't often happen for me. The story was the perfect combination of suspenseful, intense, sad, and hopeful. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a mystery/thriller set in historical Korea (that's a very specific rec, but whatever GO READ THIS).

A good mystery with some jaw-dropping reveals.
That was surprisingly good and really different. A YA historical murder mystery set in 19th C Korea. While I appreciated the historical explanation about the persecution of Catholics at the end, I was really much more interested in the state of murder investigations back then and which she had explained that a bit. The idea of not being able to search without a warrant (as an example) seems anachronistic, but who knows? In any case, she builds a realistic world with compelling characters.
I'd love to see an "adult version" of this.

June Hur can do no wrong. I am obsessed with this time in history and her books are the reason why.
