I enjoyed the historical aspects of this book, but found the plot a bit slow going.

This was mostly interesting. I had a lot of trouble following the various red herrings because the whole honor-before-everything-else thing is so foreign to me. I did suspect Inspector Han was her brother long before she did.
I can always tell when I'm not engaged in a book when I find myself surfing FB instead of reading. That happened quite a bit with this one.
This was a good stretch book for me but I doubt I'll be seeking out other works by this author.

Powerful. Very compelling. For a historical story set 200 years in the past, I never felt lost or confused - a testament to Ms. Hur's incredible writing ability.

3.5/5 (almost a 3.75)
I enjoyed this book: the story moved along, there was a bit of intrigue and mystery that kept me engaged, and bits of surprise that wrapped the story together nicely.
The main character was a bit irritating at times (she never listened or did what she was told!!) and overall the story seemed to lack that certain added something that makes a good book great.
