Walk the Edge

Katie McGarry

4.1 AVERAGE

Soo...I kind of hated this book. And that makes me really sad because I'm a fan of Katie McGarry. But this book took me almost 3 weeks to get through. That should tell you something right there.

So, Walk the Edge, the story of Razor and Breanna. Or tortured and whiner as I like to call them. Razor is a member of The Terror - the local motorcycle gang. Years ago his mother died and he's never really dealt with her death. Now there's a detective coming around saying his mother's death may not have been an accident and it drags up all of these feelings that Razor has been hiding. But the problem is, no one in the Terror will talk about it. They say to just trust them but Razor can't do that

Then there's Breanna. The smart girl who feels like no one sees her. The middle child in a family of nine, she's always struggled with fitting in. So she decides it's a new year, why not be a new her? Well, it doesn't work and in fact, she ends up being blackmailed by the schools 'hottie', Kyle, to write his English papers cause he's failing.

This book was on massive eye roll. And most of that was due to Breanna. She's scared that her future will be ruined if Kyle releases this photo he has of her and Razor outside of a club - talking. OH MY GOD, how DARE she talk to a boy! Of course if this goes viral, she'll be a labeled a slut, a whore. All because she was talking to someone. THE NERVE.

I'm sorry. Call his effing bluff. It's a picture. Nothing happened. Let him post it. But nooooooo. She's all like, I have to write his papers even though that will make me a cheater and wah wah wah nobody sees me wah wah wah.

Sorry. I really dislike Breanna.

And her family. OMG her family was the worst. And I'm sorry, that story with Clara - yeah, she's still unredeemable.

Razor's story was the only thing that saved this from being a one star. And it was mostly because of the side characters in the club. When the truth finally comes out about his mom, it is really heartbreaking. And there was no reason that Razor couldn't have been told this. I get that he was 10 when she died. Yes, that was probably too soon. But he's now 18 and questioning it and no one would tell him a thing. They say that once your a brother there's no lies and no secrets, that they all trust each other. Well, that obviously wasn't true considering how much they never told Razor. I call bullshit. And his own father was helping in keeping the secrets. What a great father.

And then there was the ending with the resolution of Kyle and his bullshit and can I say Drama Drama Drama. Oh my god, I couldn't. I'm sorry. That was just ridiculous. I'm going to read the next one just because I like Chevy and I want to finish the series. But I'm going in with a heavy heart because I hate Violet already. This series man, it hurts. And not in the good way.

Love this author and this series. Did not disappoint.

clumsy girl, cancer history, pride excess, morocco, engaged, prego

My biggest problem with this book is that now that it is over I have to wait entirely too long to dive back into this world. I couldn't help but take an interest in Razor in book one and I was eager to hear his story. It was everything I hoped for and more! I am surprised each time I read one of these books just how engrossed I become in this world of big, not-so-bad bikers. McGarry's writing completely swept me away and I couldn't seem to put this one down. But unfortunately, now the wait for book three begins...

Katie McGarry's Pushing the Limits was one of the books that really changed my mind about Young Adult fiction. It could be exciting and fun and, above all, well-written! So when I saw Walk the Edge pop up I knew I wanted to read it. And I loved it. Thanks to Harlequin and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Katie McGarry's books are incredibly easy to love. Part of that is because of how beautifully her stories stick to expected YA patterns without becoming boring. Walk the Edge is the perfect example of this. Breanna and Razor are seemingly stereotypes: the quiet girl and the bad boy, the girl who does what she has to and the boy who always does the unexpected. But McGarry gives her characters more than just these stock character traits. Breanna is interesting, which shouldn't come as a surprise, but does. Ever since Stephanie Meyer gave us Bella Swan, YA heroines have been suffering from boring-itis but McGarry's never do. There are sides to Breanna which are unexpected, she never makes unjustifiably ridiculous decisions "because love" and is her own person. Ever since reading Alice Hoffman's Property Of I've also been slightly (read: extremely) intrigued by gangs or motorcycle clubs in fiction. There is something fascinating about these close-knit communities and how they interact with the outside world. Although I doubt YA fiction is the best place to learn about them, the way they are portrayed are always interesting.

I loved reading Walk the Edge, as I was expecting to. Katie McGarry is one of my go-to YA authors and she has never let me down. Breanna and Razor are great new characters and the story will keep you interested throughout the novel. I'd recommend this to YA fans.

Katie McGarry.. There is not a book she has written that I have not liked, and it continues in this Thunder Road saga.

As mentioned previously in review for another Katie McGarry book, who doesn't like a tragic romance of a boy and girl from the other side of the tracks?! The writing connecting the passion and chemistry between Razor and Bre, was once again fantastically done and it was even better to see some old characters return.

Now on to the third and final but on that note, can you write more in the saga Katie?! I want to know what happens as they grow older!!!

5 stars. Read within 24 hours.

I love the characters and the story they spoke. The author did a very good job in getting her character take the reader on a journey filled with romance. Good read.

I’m quite the fan of Katie McGarry’s work. I find her writing utterly addictive and whilst the plot can sometimes be a little far fetched it’s wonderful all the same. I didn’t get on with Walk The Edge as much as I wanted to, but it was an enjoyable read nevertheless.

Prior to Nowhere But Here I would’ve never considered reading a book centred around a motorcycle club, but Katie truly makes it work. This is partly down to the fantastic characters that Katie creates. I absolutely adored Breanna. She’s an incredibly easily to love character. Breanna is part of a huge family. She’s left to the sidelines and expected to look after her younger siblings. Breanna is bright and mature. I really felt for her. Her life wasn’t simple and there was so much expectation on her.

Breanna and Razor were a great couple. Razor certainly had his own issues going on, but I loved his geunine adoration for Breanna. They were a lovely couple. The reason why I didn’t rate this book even higher was because of Breanna’s family! They just really irritated me with their lack of interest in their daughter and their expectations for her. I do think that this book will entertain many

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this book but I had a few problems with it. At points it felt like too much was going on and certain things weren't being focused on enough. Also I hate Clara. Overall, it was good.
