So many moments had me like Whaa?? and I really liked that. I enjoyed the magic system and the overall structure of the story. Many people said that the timeline is confusing and that when italics were involved it got complicated, I didn't find that to be the case so maybe they were referring to the series as a whole and not just the first book. I really enjoyed every scene that there were italics, because I knew it was guaranteed to be interesting.
The only big complaint I have is the overuse of "letting out a breath they didn't know they were holding" it is used too often in books in general in my opinion but this time it was used at least 4 times which is wild to me. There were a few other phrases that were repeated as well but this was a debut, and I still found it very impressive.
People who don't like this book are fantasy snobs and don't like to have fun in a story. I am saying this based on the many reviews I watched/ read and because this was a lot of fun and I will be continuing the series. And anyone who reads the first book and the epilogue and somehow doesn't want to continue and doesn't have the absolute need to find out everything, I automatically don't trust.
