At first i don't like it that much cause it’s sexualizing women but as the story goes on i can't stop reading....in the end i cry 4.5⭐

This is a beautiful book, although I saw the 'twist' coming a mile away. The author knows very well how to set a scene and the narrative makes you want to keep reading. I finished it in two days!

there was so much tragedy in their lives that even though there was a happy ending, it was difficult to recover.
so many plot twists. the brother-sister thing worst of all. even so, i still could not understand how aldaya just let his daughter die like that.
anyway i blame all the men aside from fermín (best boi) and daniel's dad. was it honestly that hard for daniel and julian to get the girls' dad's permission to court their daughters? why so cloak and dagger? and getting the girls pregnant... it feels so irresponsible.

Daniel Sempere's father takes him to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books in their city of Barcelona, where Daniel is allowed to choose one book. He chooses The Shadow of the Wind by forgotten author Julián Carax. Yet quickly Daniel finds out that Carax is not as forgotten as it would seem, and he is drawn into a quest to find out Carax's fate.
I liked this so much that when I got to within about 150 pages of the end, I committed what is often a cardinal sin in our family and withdrew into my cousin's living room by myself to finish it. (Actually, nobody seemed to mind.) It's maybe a little longer than it needs to be, but the mix of Gothic suspense and historical fiction really, really worked for me. I love Wilkie Collins, and this reminded me very much of his books.

The end pulled my rating up from 2.5. While I was able to guess at some of the twists, I liked how the book wrapped everything up. The first 3/4 were hard for me to get through though and I ended up putting it down and reading other books before picking it back up.
4.5 ⭐️. This book was epic - filled with mystery, suspense, psychology, family relations, and more! I really enjoyed how there were so many plot twists. I will say it is such a detailed book that it takes you awhile to read as the descriptions of everything are so dang long. At times it moves slowly, but builds to an epic ending.
Not my type of book. I tried a new genre and it just wasn't it for me 😭
