This is such a beautifully done portrait of Hamilton's life. I highly recommend it.
Alexander Hamilton is shown in this lengthy and thoroughly researched bio to be one of the most fascinating characters in American history. Every time I read about our nation's past I am reminded that issues we see so clearly in hindsight (including whether we should have a national currency) would be controversial and divisive in their time. Hamilton was brilliant, prolific in his writings, one of the founding fathers most opposed to slavery, and came from a completely different background than other leaders of the Revolutionary period.

I am grateful I was able to get the audio version of this book from the library, as, realistically, I never would have gotten through 800+ pages reading thr physical version. This book is so brilliant because it is filled with information regarding the founding and early struggles (many of which are still applicable today) of the US. The founding fathers are humanized and some are almost demonized. I feel so much better informed and educated about the first several decades of this nation's creation.
Amazing. Well worth the read (or the Audible listen). Bonus for fans of the play: recognizing phrases LMM adapted or used wholesale in his lyrics.

This is an amazing book and I would happily recommend it to anyone who is up for an intriguing read. I've never been much of a history person but this book - which I discovered thanks to the Broadway Musical HAMILTON because this book was the inspiration behind the musical - has changed my perspective on history. In fact, I can't wait to get another history novel and dive right into the world of... well, this world. But in the past.

Quite good. It drags a bit after Hamilton leaves the Treasury, but that's the only quibble, and it's a minor one at that. Simply, Hamilton was an amazing man, despite his numerable flaws.
