This book is Christmas in a nutshell. It's the perfectly wrapped present with the perfect bow. It's the first Christmas cookie of the season. It's the first burst of the hot chocolate bomb. Honestly, I read a novella by this author last year that I didn't love. This book just completely erased my experience with that novella. For some reason, I've been really digging sunshine and grumps this year and this book was no different. Lauren and her negativity was almost too much for me. Man was she annoying! I knew she had some reason for hating him, but given how many years had passed I thought she was being a bit dramatic. After hearing the whole story and seeing how she had him on a pedestal all these years, her feelings on their whole situation finally made sense. Will. Will is this fun loving, fly by the seat of his pants guy. He's the exact type of person my type A self would hate. All in all, Will and Lauren made a great match. A good balance of opposites attract. I don't want to give anything away, but this was a fantastic Christmas book. I could easily picture it as a Hallmark movie. Lauren is annoying, but she grows on you. Will is likable from the start. Despite his mistakes, he's still a good guy, even when he doesn't realize it. This heartwarming Christmas story had me feeling all the feels. I was annoyed at Lauren, in love with Will, feeling sorry for Lauren and her family history, feeling sorry for Will and his life after his mistakes, etc the list goes on. This book really tugged at my heart strings and man the ending almost had me in tears. Overall, I thought this was a fantastic Christmas book. It was very Hallmark worthy and sooo much better than the novella I tried last year. I hope to read more like this book from this author.

This book was exactly what you want from a Christmas novel - so warm and fuzzy, with themes of family, love and humour sprinkled throughout.

This was a super sweet, Hallmark movie style road trip romance taking place over the holidays that gave me ALL the feels. Perfect for fans of the my best friend’s sister trope and second chance at love stories. This one also struck a personal note for me this Christmas as Will is dealing with grief over his grandfather’s impending death and we recently lost my grandma.

There’s a reason this indie published book has been getting so much love this holiday season! If you’re looking for a book to give you all the feels along with some laughs you won’t be disappointed, especially if you enjoy the work of author Sarah Adams.

Steam level: just kissing

I recommend this to anyone in search of a charming, clean, feel-good Christmas read. It features dual POV. There is a bit of a redemption story for the male main character.

Tropes: brother's best friend, only one bed (but this is clean, so they don't share it), forced proximity, second chance romance

Steam Level: kissing only

Trigger/Content Warnings: childhood neglect, messy divorce of parents, dying loved one

I almost gave up on this one because the switching point of view, but still being written in third person, threw me off a lot. Once I got used to the writing style though, I fell in love with the characters, their insecurities, their backstories, and their falling in love over travel. There was a sweetness to their story that added an extra layer to the Christmas spirit. As an added bonus, Lauren being a set designer was a favorite detail of mine and suddenly made me want to research all that they do. All in all a good read to sit back and relax with, add a cup of hot chocolate and you’re set.

Favorite quote: “So it’s not what you thought it was going to be—that doesn’t mean it can’t still be something amazing.”

This one was so sweet and heartwarming! This was a genuinely wholesome read and I will definitely have to read it again sometime. Christmas-y but not in an annoying or cheesy way!

I inhaled this book. It was written perfectly. Wasn’t cheesy like I was expecting since it was a Christmas book, haha. I would read this book even off Christmas season. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Such a cute read, gives tons of Hallmark vibes. Brothers childhood friend turned lover, over some obstacles they ended up discussing. I wish it was longer so there was more of them as an actual couple. I also wish we would have learned more about Wills rock bottom that made him turn his life around.
